The Count of Monte Cristo

What are readers thoughts about a sequel, or complimentary book to the Count of Monte Cristo?

I ask because it seems a number of writers have focused on what happens after the book, but none have per-sued the 9 years that Dante is missing that happens during the story?

Please tell me your thoughts? Would you read a book that told the story of the Count of Monte Cristo's missing years?

This is a great concept! There was success in books about both Carton's and Butler's early years, and there is now even an excellent comic series about the youth of Ming The Merciless! There would be a market for your idea:)

The prequel was The Prince of Asti Spumanti

Actually there ARE some new sequels to "The Count"! I've always been a big fan and always kept an eye out for more - there are two so far, the first one is titled "The Sultan of Monte Cristo", and is written by the author known only as the "Holy Ghost Writer". It is written in the exact same style as Alexandre Dumas' original and is equally as gripping. The second one is titled "That Girl Started Her Own Country". They are both available on Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble. Heaps of rave reviews on Kindle. If you are a fan of "The Count", I urge you to check them out - you won't be disappointed!! You can look them up or copy and paste the following links: http://www.amazon.com/The-Sultan-Mont... SECOND LINK: http://www.amazon.com/STARTED-COUNTRY...

I don't think there ever was a sequal to "The Count Of Monte Cristo", as Dumas ended the book pretty well. But I would be interested in reading about Edmond's early life before his imprisonment.

I agree that the Holy Ghost Writer series of books are excellent sequels.

I think "The Count of Monte Cristo" is a well-encapsulated whole, and does not benefit from sequels. Many of the classics likewise would not be served by modern sequels or prequels.

I would definitely read a story about Dantes' missing years. That would be a great story.

Chris Update on the writing, I'm halfway in and there is so much to cover that I'm thinking of splitting it into two books. My word count is already at 52,0 ...more
