Emily That is a good mix of books from different eras. I'm intrigued by one I never before heard of: The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear.

Julie Scott (juliezbscott) | 19 comments I guess our whole family are officially geeks. We have (or have borrowed) most of the books on the list. The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear was a particular favourite, especially with my boys.

Awesome! Thanks for posting.

Tricia Douglas (teachgiftedkids) | 312 comments Thanks from me too! I've forwarded the list onto a few friends. Like one of my buddies said, the list is weighted a little on the boy side. Where is Heidi, The Secret Garden, Little Women, etc?

Emily Where is Heidi, The Secret Garden, Little Women, etc?

Presumably they're not geeky enough? There are actually plenty of books about girls on the list. I'd say that it's actually slanted towards fantasy. Older classic books about girls are generally realistic, with a couple of big exceptions named Dorothy and Alice. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass is a glaring absence from the list, in my opinion. What could be more geeky than appreciating Carrol's logic games and word play?

Yeah, I wouldn't classify them as geeky books either, being a hardcore geek myself. The list also falls under the "Geek Dad" header, so I think it's normal to expect it to skew a bit more boy-ish. Nice range of early reader through middle grade books, though.

It's a great list - found a half dozen books there that I'll go hunt down for myself now.
