Feel free to add me.
Welcome to Tamara, Veronica and Dan!
We're nominating sci-fi generation ship/ark/colonization of other planets and finishing up our discussions of Artemis, Winter Tide (official monthly reads); Neverwhere and The City & the City (re-reads);The Dispossessed and The Black Tides of Heaven (buddy reads), in case you're looking to jump in feet first :)
Otherwise, I hope you'll share what you're reading in our "What Else Are You Reading" thread (I love seeing what books people have going on!) and other great discussions! Glad to have you :D

Hey Captain Spock (sorry I didn't see your post earlier!!) and Brian!
Welcome! Looks like we're really beefing up on our sci fi friends! We're just about to start The Power which is getting all sorts of attention lately and a reread of Fahrenheit 451 in the SF part of our world! Hope to see you in discussion and that you find lots of great books!

But hey! I'm a Kiwi writer, self-pubbed author and current law student, who has crammed all the five years worth of law papers into four years because stress is healthy.
I love fantasy, post-apocalyptic, some sci-fi and anything sufficiently introspective and well-written to entertain me but also make me think.
I am currently reading 'The Five Warriors' by Angela J Ford. If you have written a good fantasy novel, PM me an Amazon link. I always leave Amazon reviews for indie-novels, honest but polite :)

So far, I really enjoy Sarah J. Maas' and Jonathan Stroud's writing. I'm currently reading Scott Lynch's The Lies of Locke Lamora and I find myself really enjoying his style.
I haven't read many series thus far, but I do enjoy the Throne of Glass series (Throne of Glass), the Pendergast series (Relic), as well as the Lockwood & Co. series (The Screaming Staircase). I have a feeling, the Gentleman Bastard series (The Lies of Locke Lamora) will also be a favorite series of mine.
Also, hi.
Welcome, Avery! Lies of Locke Lamora was fantastic to me, too. Glad you're enjoying it! Hope you find many more books to read and some good conversations about them :)

Thank you! I look forward to diving deeper into Sci Fi and Fantasy :D

A boyfriend in university got me to read my first fantasy novel. After we broke up, I didn't remember the author's name, just a vague memory of the story and the name. It took looking at a lot of back covers to find I had read a Dennis L. McKiernan book and once I found him, I bought his books.
I also read books from these other fantasy authors:
- Katherine Kurtz Deryni world
- Kate Elliott's Crown of Star series.
- Dave Duncan King's Blades series
- Mercedes Lackey Valdemar series
- Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit/Silmarillion
- JK Rowling's Harry Potter series
I admit, I don't read a lot of fantasy anymore (although the above sure account for a lot of used up bookshelves).
Other than an entire bookshelf unit devoted to Star Wars books, the rest of my reading goes to literary (Alexandre Dumas, Jane Austen), historical fiction (Ken Follett), detective novels (Michael Connelly Bosch's series), military fiction (Tom Clancy - Jack Ryan).
As much as I love reading, it now comes at the expense of writing. But when I do get into a book, writing goes out the door until I finish. And with less time to read, I'm pickier about what I read and tend to stay with authors I know.
I suppose what attracts me the most as a reader are series, no matter the genre. Once I get to know a cast of characters, I'm not satisfied with just one story, I need to know "what happens next?"

I am 32, from Austria and totally into science fiction, fantasy, humor and science topics and always trying to widen my range.

I have always been into Sci-fi from the works of Jules Verne, HG Wells through to Lois McMaster Bujold, Anne McCaffrey, Isaac Asimov and many in between like EE Doc Smith. Plus a I also have a love of fantasy especially in the form of Terry Pratchett.
I'm pretty addicted to books and read all the time. While I love SF, I do break it up with other genres as well. I would be hard pressed to say what my favourite book is, as there are so many to choose from.
Thanks for reading, I look forward to the discussions to come.

Thanks Allison, I'm sure I will.

Hey Matt! What's up Udayan! I hope you find lots of books! Udayan, your favorites are well-appreciated here :) Welcome both!

I'm Robin N Greenwood and still finding my voice with the authoring thing, I'm working mainly in dystopian fantasy and vampires tied into British history

Welcome Robin and Saar! Glad to have you :) Saar, we have a lot of people here with impressive book collections--so much so that they persuaded Sarah to set up a challenge for reading books we already own! If it sounds fun to you, you might want to check it out :)

I'm Camilla, originally from Denmark, but have been spending most of my adult life in different countries.
I am a voracious reader with a home library of way too many books and a chock-full Kindle and library habit :-D Favourite genres are of course Fantasy and Sci-fi (that was easy to guess), but I like to read from most genres.
I have so many books to be read, so am very much looking forward to participating in your reads and discussions! :-)
(rambling over...)
Welcome, Camilla! So glad you found us! May you discover tons of great books :D
We're finishing up nominations for our May fantasy book (this one's for graphic novels/trade paperback comics!) and about to start our April books Among Others and Lord of Light. We also have several buddy reads and re-reads underway, so if you get stuck, maybe one of them will call to you!

I've already poked around a bit and love the 2018 cleanup challenge. I got lazy with my reading in 2017 and need a good kick in the pants. I think this will do the trick. I can't wait to build my list, and I look forward to chatting with you all :)
Hey there, Marian! So pleased that you're finding your way around and that you found a challenge that may be helpful :D Can't wait to hear how it goes!

Welcome, Gio! I think we can help you find books ;-) If you're looking for more than you can find in conversation or on our shelves, feel free to start a thread in the "Recommendations and Lost Books" folder!

Currently reading Julie Kagawa's Blood of Eden series.
Lifelong reader, retired from Navy in 2014, and published (small press) the 1st book in my Urban Fantasy series this year (2nd in Beta read.) Looking forward to participating in discussions and seeing what's of interest in the community. - Jim Stein

My name is Clay. I love sci-fi and many other genres. I am a new author and was hoping to convince some of you to read my new stuff. I don't want to break any rules or spam, so if the mods deem it okay I will elaborate on that.
I am new to good reads, usually I pick up a new book by word of mouth from people I have similar tastes with, so this forum is really cool to me. Nice to be here and thanks!
Hi Clay! sci fi is great! We have pretty strict rules on convincing folks, please see the post "everything you need to know. " Hope to see you in conversation!

Since then I have read sci-fi/fantasy/crime/crimes in space, fantastic crime. My favourites all date from earlier years - Cherryh, Bujold, Barbara Hambly, Storm Constantine, and Guy Gavriel Kay. And I get some fun from the lighter fantasy writers on Kindle Unlimited. This group I hope will lead me to more delights.
Note: I am too old now to start on fifty book epics that the author hasn't finished, and I just abandoned Consider Phlebas, so my tastes may not be as eclectic as they were when I was younger.
Welcome, Rosina! I hope you'll find a good mix here so you can join in when it strikes your fancy :)

I'm David, and I'm new to Goodreads but a longtime reader. My tastes are eclectic, but my library is made up mostly of works of science fiction and fantasy. It would be difficult for me to choose a 'favorite' author; it changes from day to day. Perhaps Lois McMaster Bujold? Of all the series in my collection, I think that I've re-read the Vorkosigan Saga the most.
I've been reading a lot of urban fantasy lately, and also a fair amount of superheroic prose (I recently published my first novel in that latter genre, but I'll post about that in the 'Author's Discussion' section). I still dive headfirst into hard sci-fi and epic fantasy when a good recommendation falls into my lap, though!

since I now finally joined a SciFi book club IRL, I figured I might as well become active here. 45yrs young, based in Berlin, and I just LOVE SciFi, but none of my friends do.
So it was a relief to find the Berlin SciFi book club via meetup, and now joining this club here, I have a good feeling regarding my SciFi future.
My last good reads, more in the appropriate channel:
The city where we once lived / Barnes
6 Wakes / Lafferty
The will to battle / Palmer (Terra Ignota 3)
Alif the unseen / Wilson
Looking forward to new input,
e

I'm a true book addict since my early days. My grandfather used to read me books and then made audio tapes while I recited passages by heart. I still keep those. And I still remember the whole Branko Copic's Hedgehog's Home he taught me when I was 3. As a child I loved fables and fairy tales and then I discovered Greek, Roman and Slavic mythology. I suppose that was just an introduction to the world of mystery, magic and fantasy.
Later Asimov, Herbert and Orwell entered my life and I was hopelessly in love. Since then, science fiction became, and still is, my favorite genre.
In this group I hope to find some great minds to think alike and to discover new titles to add to my to-read list.
Few of my latest sci-fi reads:
The Expanse series - James S. A. Corey
Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold
The Broken Earth trilogy - N .K. Jemisin
Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy - Cixin Liu
Red Rising trilogy - Pierce Brown
Silo series - Hugh Howey
