I very much enjoyed POC as well. People are disappointed because it doesn't focus on Richard and Kahlan? That does not make it a bad book or any less important to the SOT story line.

Plus - I was happy Richard finally found some of his family, felt like he got a chance to rebuild something that he lost. At least for a while.
I have to admit - Jennsen was one of my favorite characters in the books though. She was sweet, but also calculating. I didnt really like Oba - I felt like he was overly similar with Drefen, I always thought that might be why people didnt respond very well to it, but *shrug* I at least thought the story line with Jennsen and Sabastian was really strong.

This is my least favorite of 11 books (too early to judge The Omen Machine for me because I want to see where it goes with the sequel). Not because of a particular flaw, but because Richard and Kahlan were my favorite characters and I wanted to get back to them. On the other hand, I think having a break from them added to my enjoyment of the series in the long run.

Luckily I didnt read the series until after Omen Machine had been published so it was nice break after a good 70 hours of R&K.
But - yah. I thought Jennsen was a pretty important character however I can see John's point because the majority of characters didnt really carry over from that particular installment. I did like the interactions with Jagang in POC though - saw another side of him, IMO.

Reading it, Jennsen was making perfectly logical choices and decisions based on what she knew. But all the time I was thinking "No.. your wrong... don't do that." in my head :)

She wasnt marred by all the war, killing, rapeing and pillaging going on in society because she kept out of society and stayed to the back roads, so to speak. She was a different kind of person and represented a different world view which I enjoyed.
And totally agree, she didnt know any better. She wasnt following current events or anything like that. She was sort of naive, but not stupid.
I actually really liked it and kind of enjoyed the story from a different perspective. I just wanted to know what others thought of this book. I convinced my sister to read the SOT series and when she got to POC she didn't even want to finish it!!! I don't under stand.
I think it deserves a little bit more credit.
