Maci (macij) | 23 comments So when i first started reading the series, The Pillars of Creation got a really bad rap. People told me it was one of the worst books in the series and that it was super boring.

I actually really liked it and kind of enjoyed the story from a different perspective. I just wanted to know what others thought of this book. I convinced my sister to read the SOT series and when she got to POC she didn't even want to finish it!!! I don't under stand.

I think it deserves a little bit more credit.

I very much enjoyed POC as well. People are disappointed because it doesn't focus on Richard and Kahlan? That does not make it a bad book or any less important to the SOT story line.

Maci (macij) | 23 comments The fact that is wasnt from Richard and kahlan's pov was what i liked about

Amber (ivorydoom) | 53 comments I actually liked POC also. Its was sort of nice taking a break from Richard and Kahlan, at least for me, since I read the whole series back to back.

Plus - I was happy Richard finally found some of his family, felt like he got a chance to rebuild something that he lost. At least for a while.

I have to admit - Jennsen was one of my favorite characters in the books though. She was sweet, but also calculating. I didnt really like Oba - I felt like he was overly similar with Drefen, I always thought that might be why people didnt respond very well to it, but *shrug* I at least thought the story line with Jennsen and Sabastian was really strong.

John (jghurey) | 14 comments This is my least favorite in the series but I still rate it as a 4 star book. For me I don't mind a hundred page character exposition so that we have a firm grasp on the nature of a minor character's interaction with the main characters. I wasn't too fond of an entire novel devoted to minor character exposition as this one was. I like that TG doesn't just create a character for the sake of killing them off but he did that in this book. The notion that there are people that such as Jennsen is clearly an important part of the larger tale but I don't think it is novel size important. Anyway; its a relative judgement. It is still much better than a lot of books that I've read but in comparison to the rest of the books in the series it goes to show, in my opinion, just how good they are.

Marina Fontaine (marina_fontaine) | 98 comments @John- Did you read the whole series? Jennsen is CRUCIAL to what happens at the end, and the choice she makes would not ring true IMO if we didn't know exactly who she is, how she thinks and how she got to that point.

This is my least favorite of 11 books (too early to judge The Omen Machine for me because I want to see where it goes with the sequel). Not because of a particular flaw, but because Richard and Kahlan were my favorite characters and I wanted to get back to them. On the other hand, I think having a break from them added to my enjoyment of the series in the long run.

Amber (ivorydoom) | 53 comments I could see how people that were following the series before all the books came out and had been waiting for some follow up with POC wouldnt like it.

Luckily I didnt read the series until after Omen Machine had been published so it was nice break after a good 70 hours of R&K.

But - yah. I thought Jennsen was a pretty important character however I can see John's point because the majority of characters didnt really carry over from that particular installment. I did like the interactions with Jagang in POC though - saw another side of him, IMO.

Maci (macij) | 23 comments I agree with Amber, I liked the break from Richard & Kahlan. and the interactions with Jagang as well. Kind of shows you what Jangang tells people to get them to follow him. And how people think of Richard.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 67 comments Just finished POC and I rather enjoyed it. Not at all as bad as I was expecting and the change in viewpoint made it refreshing.

Reading it, Jennsen was making perfectly logical choices and decisions based on what she knew. But all the time I was thinking "No.. your wrong... don't do that." in my head :)

Maci (macij) | 23 comments Oh me too! My sister stopped reading because she thought Jensen was being stupid, and I'm like "She doesn't know any better!"

message 11: by Amber (new)

Amber (ivorydoom) | 53 comments I actually thought Jennsen was one of the sweetest and most refreshing female characters in SOT.

She wasnt marred by all the war, killing, rapeing and pillaging going on in society because she kept out of society and stayed to the back roads, so to speak. She was a different kind of person and represented a different world view which I enjoyed.

And totally agree, she didnt know any better. She wasnt following current events or anything like that. She was sort of naive, but not stupid.

Marina Fontaine (marina_fontaine) | 98 comments Having finished the series, I have so much admiration for Jennsen doing what she did at the end that I'm glad she got more or less the whole book dedicated to her.
