What do you think of them?

message 2: by Farhia (new)

Farhia (farhia97) | 105 comments I loved Kai and Cinder together, they were perfect. But at the end, I was pretty much screaming because Kai ditches her just because she was a lunar and cyborg, but she really loved him....so sad :'(

message 3: by Marie (new)

Marie | 58 comments I loved them too and it's true that it was really sad but I feel like it was realistic. That's a lot of informations to take in at once. I think that with a little time, he'll realize that it doesn't change the way he feels about her.

message 4: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I'm currently reading Cinder and so far I like the chemistry between the two. Wonder what Kai's reaction will be like when he finds out Cinder is a cyborg?

message 5: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Phelps (shaynic) | 6 comments I think this romance was my favorite throughout the series, only because of how it started. She wasn't really thinking about him like her sister was and then boom! He shows up at her booth asking for her help. And then she risked it all to save him from the queen. It was realistic that he ditched her but to see his agony play out in subsequent novels is too heartbreaking!

message 6: by Crystal (new)

Crystal I love them together but kinda wanted was upset at Kai for reacting so harshly /: I mean she was went there risking her life but im happy now with their relationship and whats happened in the Cress

message 7: by Bookiemonster (new)

Bookiemonster | 30 comments I loved their slow burn romance; but I didnt see it as Cyborg/Lunar discrimination. Rather, It would politically be a wrong move and it was a betrayal of trust on Cinder's part to Kai

Emilia (doctorherondale) | 186 comments Emily, you are so right!

Of Butterflies & Books | -28 comments I'm currently reading Scarlet, and there has been only one mention of Kai. I still do like him, but so far Thorne kind of has my vote as well. Kai is a great guy and I know he has a responsibility as Emperor now (spoiler), but he feels like such a follower to me in terms of where I'm at in the book/book series. I mean yeah he liked her when she was this cool, normal, mechanic that didn't treat him like he was some pop icon and just as a normal guy, who also happened to be the Prince, but as soon as her true identity was revealed, at least part of it, he wouldn't and couldn't except her for who she really was because of what everyone else thought of her. I don't know maybe things will change the further I get into the series, NO SPOILERS!, but so far I'm not the biggest Kai fan right now.

Emilia (doctorherondale) | 186 comments I think with a burden such as his it's hard to make decisions that all people find morally right. He has to think about more people then himself. He has to think of his kingdom and in fact the whole Earth as well. It's a weight no single person should carry on their own. Since he does, his choices aren't always kind, they aren't always what he hope and they especially aren't always the easiest. Everything's complicated. Due to this, I think finding out that the girl you liked/loved was hiding secrets and the comfort you found in the simplicity and honesty if t took a toll on him. Not that I'm saying that how he reacted was right, but I can understand why he did. :D

Same, it's just now she's technically involved with a person that doesn't care about her circumstances: her being a cyborg and a Lunar because he's just as bad in the eyes of rest of society even if he thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

True. True. I hope that in this coming book we see a change in attitude. Some kind of revelation for him. I still love Kai and hope he gets with Cinder. I think he just needs to do something to prove that he won't be like the others, that he is different.

You're welcome. I think also it is important to highlight how it was effective ..."

Agreed. Without some kind of struggle, it's just not very realistic. Then, it falls into the whole cheesy instalove category which would ruin the depth of this book.

message 15: by Bookiemonster (new)

Bookiemonster | 30 comments Moreover, Kai's character is so good. He doesn't follow the stereotype of the YA guy. He is just cute, not über hot. He is firm, but not aggressive. He isn't sassy or sarcastic but very sweet. He is polite and uniform and not brash and foolhardy. As a male myself, I really connect with him and I love how his counterpart, Cinder, is everything that he is not:completing and complementing him.

Totally agreed. It's nice when the guy is realistic. Too many books make the boy too perfect and take away the realism of the story. He then just becomes an object to admire and no longer a person

I don't like wining/annoying or perfect characters. It's our flaws that make us who we are.

Emilia (doctorherondale) | 186 comments Exactly! They are what makes us human.

Amy J | 286 comments I actually love these two, on their own and together. There aren't many literary characters that I can say that about, but I absolutely loved these two. I think that was one of the main reasons why I didn't enjoy Scarlet the first time around was because of how attached I was to Cinder and Kai's story, that I was just waiting for them to come back.
But I absolutely loved the end of Cress, but I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it yet. Either way, Winter is going to be amazing, especially with it being about 800 pages!

Of Butterflies & Books | -28 comments I am currently reading Scarlet and I'm not sure how I feel about Cinder/Kai's relationship at this point. For me, it's like I'm actually glad that they have this time apart due to the circumstances that occurred in Cinder. I understand Kai is responsible for an entire nation and I know he secretly wants Cinder to get as far away as possible, but I feel like Cinder and Kai need this time apart in order to decide what it is they really want and the lengths they are willing to go to get it. This is another reason why I am absolutely obsessed with this series because the author paints a picture of what a realistic view of fairy tales should be.

message 23: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (mixedgirlreading) I love theses two together and I love the fact that their relationshihp isn't perfect. That being said I still kinda want to knock their heads together and say "now kiss."

message 24: by Sierra (new)

Sierra (sierra_mccloud) | 0 comments I want them to be together so bad! They are perfect together!

message 25: by Jill (new)

Jill (themagicofbooks) | 27 comments I love that they are just so adorable that you don't need constant action between them in order to keep us interested.

message 26: by Emilia (new)

Emilia (doctorherondale) | 186 comments @Jill: Agreed!!! It just feels more real this way.

message 27: by Allison (new)

message 32: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Cinder and Kai were made for each other and they will forever be a ship sailing on the Fandom Sea

message 34: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Whittemore Oh I love Kai as a character. And cinder is spunky enough that i don't hate her for having the perfection that is the distressed Kai. No jealousy. Just props.

zoha (A book maestro) | 28 comments CinKa Forever <3
The most cutest and normal couple of YA fantasy !

message 36: by Gaby (new)

Gaby (readawayandweep) | 1 comments I love them soo much!!!

message 37: by Nora (new)

Nora (effervescentphilanthropist) I really do love Cinder/Kai. They're so wonderfully natural and believable in their interactions and development through the series. Being the central couple, and the representation of Cinderella/Prince Charming, a bad writer could've easily made them campy or two dimensional. But Meyer is so accomplished that they're instead completely individualist and fully fleshed out characters that both signify the tropes they're supposed to represent while still being unique. You can understand why they would be drawn to each other. Plus they can be so wonderfully awkward and sweet that it fills your feels with all the fluffines~

message 38: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Moon | 1 comments So I just finished Scarlet and I am about to start Cress...is it just me, or in the first book I felt like the romance wasn't the best? I feel like not enough really happened between them to make it seem believable. I guess I wish the author had spent more time going over what was going in in each of their heads in their interactions. Maybe it was just me...but then, in the second book when they are apart, it starts to feel more realistic. I'm curious to see what happens in the next few books!

message 39: by Shi (new)

Shi Janelle I love Cinder and Kai! I felt like as soon as Kai and Cinder met, there was just this spark. They clicked so well, and I loved that! It made the story more interesting and really easy to get into. I've been trying to read Scarlet for a while now, and I just can't get onboard with the Scarlet and Wolf. I get around to the same spot everytime, and it's not really working for me. As far as continuing, I do want to continue because I've heard amazing things, but I don't know if I can get through Scarlet.

message 40: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 30 comments I really like them together but at the end of the book(I am currently reading Scarlet) I just got really mad at Kai because he ended up not thinking bad things about him because Cinder was a syborg.

I disagree about Scarlet and Wolf, I think they're perfect for each other.

message 42: by Mia (new)

Mia Long (miaya) | 29 comments At first I didn't like Kai because I thought he was kinda dumb but as the books progressed I began to see another side to him. I really hope they get married because they are so sweet.

message 43: by Chloe (new)

Chloe I think it's super cute how he didn't really care that she was cyborg. I think he was just mad she lied in the first book :) I LOVE THEM

I think that there was more dynamic between Scarlet and Wolf, I liked the romance between them better but the chemistry between Cinder and Kai is undeniable though😂I love their conversations!

I totally know how you feel, I sort of shipped Thorne and Cinder until Kai came back...

message 47: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 14 comments This is my favourite ship out of the four in TLC. I love Kaider. Cinder left me shattered and frustrated and literally THIRSTING for them to be together. By the end of Cress I was crying happy tears for their reunion.

message 48: by Isabel (new)

Isabel (isabeleleison) Oh look, my otp <3 loved seeing their relationship develop throughout the books, especially in the last few.
