I had to read both this book and Black Like Me in a school class. (Social protest through the ages, was the title of the section.) Basically, just as in Black Like Me the main character decides to see what its like to work as a black maid. She too does the dyeing of skin, then goes out and gets jobs working as a maid. She too was an author I believe and was doing this for her work, just as John Howard Griffin did for his work.

Pretty basically, that's what I remember about it, except that one of the husbands of a woman that she's cleaning for tries to rape her, insisting that since she is a servant its his RIGHT to have sex with her. She does fight him off, and leaves him really upset that she's not willing to have sex with him.

I don't think so. I think that the book I read she used the same medication/skin darkening regime that Griffin did. I also don't remember a lot of "soul sister" stuff in it. But then again--except for what I wrote I really don't remember much. I do know that I'd thought that Griffin's book was much better.

One of the GR reviews says that she is nearly raped by her white employer.

Hum, then I'm going to go with that is the one. Especially since that is one of the scenes that really stuck in my mine. Thanks.
