Andrew Hastie I would travel to Middle-Earth and hang out with Tom Bombadil
Andrew Hastie Hi Gill,

I'm glad you like Chimaera, it was an interesting diversion from the main story... as for book 3, that should be completed in the next month or so and after a few rounds of polishing I would hope to have it out by August.

Andrew Hastie Will probably re-read the Foundation books by Asimov, just can't seem to get enough of those. Meanwhile, I need to get on and finish book 2 in the Infinity Engines Series!!!
Andrew Hastie By the strangest things. Sometimes it's a phrase in a movie, other times it's an article about an ancient civilisation. The key thing is to write every day, doesn't have to be a long session, but get into the habit of putting something down – exercise your brain and push yourself to go outside of the norm.
Andrew Hastie It's like being inside your own movie. I can visualise everything that I write, it's kind of a fugue state where I go into 'elsewhere' - which is when the ideas really flow. I love that part, although I'm not sure my family would say the same...
Andrew Hastie Write about things you love. If you don't enjoy the things that you're writing about - how can you expect your readers to like it?
Andrew Hastie When I get stuck, it's normally because I've lost the thread of the story. When that happens, I go back to the character development and make sure they are on track. Usually, it's the characters that are driving the plot so their motivations are always a good starting point. Otherwise, I mooch around random events from the past or articles on quantum mechanics and Chaos to see if it sparks any new ideas. Whatever you do don't stare at a blank page willing it to show you the way.
Andrew Hastie I'm working on the second book of the series. This and the next book are planned out by chapter, so I have a really good idea of where it's going but I like to leave some room for ideas as I go. Which means sometimes I find myself in a completely different place to where I should be. The first draft is always a lot of fun because I don't worry about whether it works yet as a end-to-end story, I just let my imagination take me wherever (and whenever) it will.
Andrew Hastie It all started with the scene where Josh breaks into the Colonel's house. I could see the rooms full of old memorabilia and artefacts. The kind of rooms you see hoarders create on TV. The idea that Josh would steal something and end up back in the past gave me the storyline for the Oblivion Order, that things have a past and there are people that can use them to navigate back in time. I didn't want a time machine or a blue box... I wanted them to be able to do it naturally, like a super power and I wanted Josh to accidentally enter that world.
