I don't think you need to read The Old Man and the Sea before my book to enjoy it. A lot of people haven't. But... It's a great book. I highly recommend it. Yes. My book is a lit like the Road. A little bit like the others.

For me it would be Tolkien's Middle Earth. And in particular the Shire. I love the Hobbits and the Shire. I love the landscape as described by Tolkien. It feels pastoral, and yet mysterious also. I would love to take long walks out to Buckleberry and meet with the elves around fires on summer nights.

I am actually finishing The Silmarillion and The going into The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, again, to get ready to write some fantasy.

I think many of my books contain the mysteries I'm working on. Mainly philosophical questions about the nature of man. One that intrigues me of late is why many of lose the best friends of our youth and spend the rest of our lives looking for them?

I believe that we must come to the end of ourselves before we can do what we're meant to do. I hadn't really thought about your question before you asked it... but you're absolutely right. I do that. So... maybe I'm in the coming to the end of ourselves phase of my writing. Writing about people coming to the end of themselves. I do expect that I'm heading into a sea change. Maybe the big space opera and fantasy destiny novels are next. In other words: what I will be, I am now becoming.

Honestly, and I don't mean to be vain... But I really loved the couple I wrote about in The End of the World as We Knew It. Alex and Jason. They were both just perfectly flawed, and in the end... they got it. Loved conquers all. And it changes you into something better. I'd love to see that story in a movie.

I totally agree. But, this is at least a hundred or so years in the future. I think the Historical Artist had to confess reasonable doubt, which makes it more of an art piece and justifies his pursuit. Even the narrator has a subtle story.

Thank you so much, Linda. How do I do it? I pray to God before I write and then I hang on. It's all Him. Sometimes, later, I see things in the writing that I never even knew about it while I was typing. It's amazing and I am grateful. SO glad you're enjoying as much as I am. :)

I am so sorry. This was a colossally bad move by the publisher. If it helps The Road is a River is longer than both other books book together. Or pretty close to. If you sign up for my newsletter at NickColeBooks.com I'll let you know if the price drops, sometimes they'll lower to $1.99 or so, and then you can scoop it up. Also, you could buy a used copy. Those are inexpensive. Again, I'm so sorry about that. I wish I could change it but the publisher and I have parted ways.

Wouldn't that be awesome! It's fiunny you would say that because it was an idea that came to me playing video games with my sons over the Internet. As a single dad it was a way to be with my family. Island Pirates was like a world where we could create and have adventures and help each other. Thank you, my lady, for digging the Make! One day we may get to play in something like it.
