It was a mixture of both. When you are writing a novel, you are at once the author and the reader. Whilst I had an idea of where it was all going, my characters took me to places I couldn’t have imagined.
Audrey was a deeply complex and flawed character. When her voice came to me, it was almost like a whisper... dark and full of foreboding. As compelling as her world was, sometimes I struggled with the weight of it. But I am proud of how I was able to bring her story to life.
Writing my second novel, Poemsia (Out October 1st) was a completely different experience. My protagonist, Verity Wolf burst into my head and she was full of joy and laughter. She’s warm and irrepressible and kind of ridiculous. I fell madly in love with Verity’s world, and never wanted to leave. Now, I cant wait to share that experience with all my amazing, beautiful readers!

Hi Anna! This is a question I get asked the most, and has inspired my new novel, Poemsia which comes out October 1st. Poemsia follows the story of aspiring poet, Verity Wolf, and her stratospheric rise to fame. It takes you deep into the inner workings of the modern poetry movement, the breathtaking highs and pitfalls. There are many lessons I have learned on my own journey that will be imparted in Poemsia. xo Lang

Gosh, I think about this so much that it makes my head spin. I write about this subject matter often and it seems to resonate with many others so I suppose even if we don't have definitive proof, there is a feeling of something else, or somewhere else that goes way beyond wishful thinking or false hope.

I started Sad Girls after my first book Love & Misadventure was published in 2013. It was a project I loved coming back to while I was working on my other poetry titles. Audrey's voice popped into my head and she wouldn't leave me alone. I read somewhere that there is no such thing as fiction, just non fiction written in an alternate world and this accurately describes my experience when working on Sad Girls.

By rubbing both my hands together and pretending I am making fire when in fact I am actually making ideas for books.
