I started Sad Girls after my first book Love & Misadventure was published in 2013. It was a project I loved coming back to while I was working on my other poetry titles. Audrey's voice popped into my head and she wouldn't leave me alone. I read somewhere that there is no such thing as fiction, just non fiction written in an alternate world and this accurately describes my experience when working on Sad Girls.

When you write, do you have a predetermined destination for where the characters will end up, or do you let the characters and their natural development guide you to where they end up? Reading Sad Girls, it just felt like there was such a natural progression for each character's path that fit them so well so I was curious how you determined their paths. Thanks!
