My cat Leo inspired some of my current book. He has such a little personality. When I was thinking of how to introduce a magical character who needed a disguise, Leo the cat came to mind.
But overall, the idea to write a paranormal cosy came from binge reading within the genre. I challenged myself to come up with an idea and ran from there.

I outline and plot quite a bit upfront, which helps cut down on the writer's block in general. When I do get stuck on a particular scene, I remind myself of what the scene has to accomplish. Then I step away from the computer and go out into the real world. I mull over ideas as I go about daily life. Eventually the words I need appear in my head.

The best part is the ability to reimagine the world. Writing lets me remove all constraints and envision a different reality - and then to share it with others.

National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo). I've "won" nanowrimo twice now and find that the rapid pace forces me to get words down on paper. It stops you from second-guessing each word and instead encourages you to pull together a bare bones first draft. Being able to write "The End" after a month feels like a huge accomplishment (even if you have a lot of editing in front of you).

I love to look around at a perfectly normal scene and think about one change which would completely change it. I also like to think back to moments of my life and wonder how everything might be different if I changed one small decision.

I'm working on my cosy mystery series! It is a really fun project set right here in my hometown of Oxford, England. The first two books will be out this summer.
