#TheBookThief: International Trailer

"Good night…Book Thief."

The international trailer is out now, and there’s more of Max (Ben Schnetzer), more Rosa (Emily Watson)…and more of that dauntless Jesse Owens impersonator, Rudy Steiner (the always-gracious Nico Liersch). Wait for the words of his that kill me every time…As Death once said, he does something to me, that boy.

I hope you enjoy it.

This is one of the more spectacular things I’ve ever seen…Death has literally climbed from the pages.

GREAT ART, GREAT CAUSE.

The Sydney Story Factory is an awesome place, and every person (but especially every child) who walks through its doors can’t help but feel their creative spark rise quickly into a flame…

For that reason, I’m really looking forward to Wednesday’s ‘JUDGE A BOOK – BUY ITS COVER’ art exhibition:

A great cause. Great artworks by many of Australia’s finest. How can you go wrong?

If I see you there, maybe we can battle it out for The Fantastic Mr Fox…

#THEBOOKTHIEF: NEW POSTER. LIESEL AND HANS.

It’s been a long time since I revisited this moment in the pages of The Book Thief . It was one of the very few times when the words were just there - I only had to be quick enough to write them down:

Smoke was rising out of Liesel’s collar.

A necklace of sweat had formed around her throat.

Beneath her shirt, a book was eating her up.

I also have to admit, it’s a luxury I’m finding easy to get used to. For a decade I’ve had to conjure these images from words and pages, or somewhere far inside me. Now they show me this, and it’s almost too beautiful, too fast.
