Conundrum May 2, 2014
So I've gotten in the habit of showing up here, and I was thinking about something that's always confused me. It's a given that we write the best books we can, we love them to pieces and we're always shocked and hurt when other people don't adore them. But then we reach the point where we wisely understand that everyone can't like everything. It's a matter of personal taste.

So far, so good. But .... I'm listening to the new audio recording of THE WINDFLOWER by Laura London (aka Sharon and T...

Day 41, in Which All this Glory Comes to an End and a New World Begins
For one last blowout, everything under my purview is $.99 for the day, plus Shadow Lover is $1.99 for one final day. Afterwards we go back to new, lower prices, lowering everything by a dollar, meaning what was usually $3.99 will henceforth be $2.99 (do normal people say "henceforth"?) and $1.99 novellas are now $.99. ON THIN ICE will go down to $4.99 because, y'know, new books to write, new worlds to conquer.
So I was gonna give you the quick and dirty story of what romance novels were like i...

Day 40, In Which I Discover I Have One More Day
Well, actually I figured that out a few days ago. I'm not as bad at math as some writers are, but obviously it's never been my strong suit. But that's okay -- I have enough treats to eke out.
For today we have another short story, this one called WEDDING BELL BLUES. I wrote it for an online magazine and the details are lost in the mists of memory, though it couldn't have been much more than a decade ago. It's sweet and fun and quirky. Just click on the name to download, or look under Special T...

Day 39, In Which BARRETT'S HILL IS REPRINTED AND I EXPOSE THE BIG LIE
First off -- ta da! BARRETT'S HILL is now officially back in print after 40 years of possibly merciful rest.http://tinyurl.com/musrwz5But I revised it, did the best I could. What I like about it is how entirely different it is from anything being written back then or now. Old gothic house? Check. Heroine's the ward of the house? Check. Mysterious murder? Check. Heroine in danger? Check. Hero a cowboy. Ch ... er. Check? Heroine a flaming bitch? Huh? Bad language? You can't do that in a gothic!...

Day 38, In Which I Avoid the Big Lie
First off, the deal of the day. PRINCE OF SWORDS AND LORD OF DANGER are $.99 each today. Prince (we shall not abbreviate it as POS!) is Kindle only, Lord of Danger is Kobo and Nook as well. Yes, these have been on sale before (well, Prince was free) but it's a Double Deal Day and I'm running out of books I control.
And I just realized, due to my hideous math skills, that I started a day too soon and we're going to have 41 days celebrating 40 years as a published writer. Well, one to grow on.
O...

Day 37, In Which I Struggle with my Scanner
My scanner is refusing to cooperate. But first, your daily treat! A couple of years ago I wrote the proposal for an off-shoot of the Committee, where burned-out operatives find Sanctuary in a strange house in a rainforest (it was going to be called Sanctuary). Nobody liked it but me (I had about 90 pages) so I put it to one side, and when some friends started Lunch Hour Love Storieshttp://lunchhourlovestories.com and asked me to participate I decided I could turn that proposal into a story. I...

Day 36, Turning Points Part 2
First off, a special treat, listed in the toolbar at the top of the page under ... ta da ... Special Treats. I've uploaded the short short story I wrote about Taka and Summer's wedding, when Jilly and Reno meet for the second time.
And now, back to Turning Points.
So there I was, an accomplished historical romance writer, when Penguin came calling with a pre-emptive offer for romantic suspense books. And I was gifted with the most wonderful ideas. The first was NIGHTFALL, and for some reason...

Day 35, In Which I Talk Turning Points (part 1)
First, the deal for the day. Win all four copies of the Wicked House of Rohan books -- RUTHLESS, RECKLESS, BREATHLESS and SHAMELESS. Dark (I didn't really think they were) and sexy historicals. Just make a comment (they don't show up right away but don't worry, I'll get them) and I'll pick five winners. Or the random number generator will.
Okay, turning points. No, not the ones that Crusie's always talking about (though those are important). I'm talking about turning points in a long, long car...

Day 34, Why publishers are like love affairs gone wrong

First off, the Daily Deal. I screwed up (as usual) when I said today was going to be a deal for every format. However, it's a great one. For the first time ever ON THIN ICE. http://tinyurl.com/ld2y2k7is only $.99, for one day only. Remember you can read Kindle books on your computer, iPad, other tablets, and your phone. You may think you don't want to read on your phone but trust me, if you're stuck in an airport it's actually quite easy. It's my only indie-published book, and I love it to p...

Okay, first the winner of gorgeous Reno and the audio of Fire and Ice is Louise Marley.

I'm missing a bunch of House of Rohan winners. I know it's delayed gratification but think what a treat it will be when the bo...
