Day 23 In Which I Talk About Writer's Block

There are a lot of strong opinions about Writer's Block, whether or not it exists, etc. Certain bullies like to insist there's no such thing, it's a job like any other, have you ever heard of plumber's block (well, actually yes), pull up your big girl panties, etc etc etc.

It's a matter of semantics. Writers's Block is Burn-out is Depression is Exhaustion is Resentment is Disappointment is Passive Aggression is Professional Jealousy is .... Well, you get the picture. Throw any negative emotio...

Day 22, When I talk about snafus

So the treat for today is my beloved LADY FORTUNE for almost half price. It's usually discounted to $5.79, and for today and tomorrow it's supposed to be $2.99. Unfortunately when I went to capture the abbreviated URLhttp://tinyurl.com/n8pmgxuit was still at the same high price. I've emailed my editor about it and since she's gloriously efficient I know she'll look into it and fix it ASAP, so in the meantime I'll simply remind you that SHADOW LOVER,http://tinyurl.com/mordoom,twisted (only in...

Day 21, In Which I Learn to Turn on a Dime

First off, here's the Daily Deal. My first historical romance (as opposed to regencies and gothics) is a Desert Isle Keeper from AAR, might have been a RITA finalist (there was that year I was up for 4) and possibly the first very very dark hero I ever wrote. It's 99 cents at Kindle, Kobo, and Nook, just for the day.

Pretty classy, eh? That was the only cover where I had to find my image among stock photos, and very few stock photos show tension between the hero and the heroine. Since the b...

Day 20, Halfway Through in which I talk about Heroes

I'll talk about collaboration when I have a drawing for DOGS AND GODDESSES. This time around here's the treat -- post a reply (and don't worry if it doesn't show up -- I have to okay them and I don't know how to change that) and I'll do a random name generator. And if you want to wait a week I'll get Crusie to sign them too. Here's what it looks like:

I'm halfway through the 40 days of celebrating 40 years, and enjoying myself, thinking about writing, about careers. I should give you more hi...

Day 19, In Which I Become Very Peculiar

This is an odd one, this book. It was one of those rare occasions (for me) that was inspired by a small new article in Time Magazine. Grandmothers were being murdered in France. For some reason it caught my attention, and I came up with a bizarre explanation and plot that grew even more bizarre as I wrote it. The love story is most definitely secondary. France is the star of the book, the feel and smell of the place. There are approximately 36 different points of view, all held strictly (I n...

Day 18

I was going to talk about the terrors of publishing. I DID talk about the terrors of publishing and then promptly lost an essay that took me over an hour to write. So today the terrors of publishing include software that is recalcitrant and writers who are not careful.

Shit on toast.

Anyway, today we have MOONRISE for free at Amazon only (I can either do absolutely free at Amazon or very very cheap everywhere, so I'm trying to alternate). Moonrise might be the darkest book I've written (or so...

Alan Rickman

Argh. There's nothing like losing a post halfway in the middle. But undaunted, I will dive in again, because Alan Rickman is worth it.

One of the real joys of writing romance is the ability to take an actor and/or a character we've seen in a movie or on tv and make it our own. Impeccably demure as always, I cannot tell you how delightful it is to have sex with your favorite crush, make them perfect in bed, and write it down so it lasts forever. Oh, no, I'd never say such a thing. (Pardon me...

Missing Winners

Well, admittedly I'm a little slow here, and Richie's been having to dig through the boxes to find the books, poor baby, but I find I'm missing names and addresses of some of the winners. Some of them I'm sure I received, but there's no trace of them on my computer, so I'll just ask one more time. The packages will go out on Monday so get me your address by then.

For On Thin Ice I still haven't heard from Leigh

For the Reckless audio:

I need addresses for Darah Gill

Melinda, Jill and Bonny Kate

Day 16, Romps and Rages

pos2.jpg

I'm known for writing dark, dark books. Heroes who are borderline psychotic (yum!), violence, sex, violent sex (always consensual), pushing the boundaries, etc etc. But you know, I write another kind of book too.

Occasionally I write romps. Books with charming albeit slightly dangerous heroes and feisty females and adventure and cartoon villains and wisecracks. In fact, some of my very best books are romps: The Devil's Waltz, Shadow Dance, Cinderman, Never Marry a Viscount, Catspaw. I think I...

Day 15, In Which I Discover that Money isn't Everything

First off, today's deal. It's LORD OF DANGER, the first of the only two medievals I wrote, for 99 cents at Amazon, good in the US, UK and Au/NZ, and for the Nook! There are all the rules I have to follow -- certain books aren't allowed to be free and those that are can't go on the Nook, etc. But at 99 cents this one's a treasure.

Speaking of money. long ago, in a golden time, I was the flavor of the month. Almost everyone wanted me for historicals (which was never what I would have expected...
