LJ Greene is a self-professed obsessive multi-tasker who writes boring stuff by day and lets her inner romantic fly by night. This California native is married to the most amazing man and has two incredible children who feed her soul every day. She’s an avid reader of all genres with an embarrassingly large ebook collection, and a weird penchant for reading the acknowledgements at the end of a novel. She’s also a music lover with no apparent musical talent, a travel enthusiast, and a cheese connoisseur.

If a character is coming from a real place inside of me, I'll find the answer in one of those two places by stepping out of my head and into his or her reality. If I truly can't find the next line, the better dialogue, the more interesting scene, then I need to go back and reevaluate what my character truly wants. What is motivating him or her in that moment? It's not sure fire, but it's worked so far. (less)

We, readers and writers, are not who they say we are. I absolutely LOVE that I get to add my voice to the company of some of the smartest, funniest, most talented group of people I know. And I get to find my niche. When I looked around my favorite genre, I found a lot of twenty-something-year-old billionaires (not that I don't love them too!) and I wondered if a great romance could be written about a regular guy - wait, no, make him a science teacher. Wait, how about a middle school science teacher??? And with that, my brain was off in flight. And now my traffic-induced musing is on Amazon. What an amazing journey it has been!(less)

Breaking Up Is Hard to Do: Writing Romance Breakups

I received an interesting question via Goodreads about my approach to writing breakups and thought it might make a useful post. It’s true that one of the most common criticisms leveled at romance is the predictability of story flow: fall in love, break up, reconcile. But that flow is the bargain we romance authors strike with our readers at a crossroads at midnight and it’s sacred to our relations Read more of this blog post »

“There are no words to describe the silence that follows. I can only say this: I’ve never been stabbed. But now I can imagine how it feels. The blade slides in with such precision, such sharpness that at first, there’s no pain – not even a full realization of what has transpired. Then slowly, as it recedes, the dawning occurs - a shocking, detached understanding of one’s own frailty. And with it comes the evidence that life is now free to flow from the body, painfully and unchecked, until there’s nothing left to give.”

“He did recognize that this certainty was, in fact, a form of defiance. He was still being defiant. But Love is defiance, he argued right back. It was the single greatest act of defiance in all the world, from the beginning of time.”

“From somewhere out in the universe came the sound of a ‘click,’ as the best of what we were together dropped definitively into place.”

“I had never been one to blindly trust the universe to award favor based on merit, but it felt like a cruel joke that we should be given a Trojan horse when we’d merely asked for a pony.”

“To what do we owe the pleasure, Ally? Oh, that’s right,” he said mildly, as if he were suddenly remembering. “Nepotism.”
