Celia's BitOCode-Customizing WP Read More #wpcode #wordpress

This week’s bit is a quick fix.  You’ve probably seen “|Read More|” around my site when you head off to the Paranormal/Shapeshifter or Ridgeville page.  Notice that each book is show with the cover, a teaser and then that lovely “|Read More|”.  Well, WordPress doesn’t come out of the box with the lovely link.  Nope, the stock appearance is “[...]“.  And it doesn’t even link to the post!  What use is that, I ask you?

Harrumph.

So, this week, we’re heading back to one of your theme’s files.  Functions.php to be exact.  So, trot off and find it… Got it?  Now, anywhere AFTER the opening tag, past in the following:

function new_excerpt_more($more) {

global $post;

return ‘ ID) . ‘”>|Read More|’;

}

See that bit that’s highlighted?  That’s what the link will show.  So, if you want it to read “Read More Awesome” then that’s what you’d put there and voila!  Awesome!

It’s a quick, simple and easy way to customize wordpress’ read more link for your posts.

Have a mwah! day!

Nibbled by the Vamp Covers & Word Count!

Whaddup?  So, I’m working on a new (possible) series that kicks off with Nibbled by the Vamp.  It’s got some totally hot, vampy fun with ebil pixies.  They’re ebil, I tell ya, ebil…  As of now, I’m at 9,300 words and it should round out at about 20,000 words which means I’m just shy of half way.  Suhweet, right?

The question becomes… Which cover should I rock?  I’ve got three I’m considering, though there’s no promises that I won’t create another one or ten.

Here are our options!

Number One!

Number Two!

Number Three!

Annnddd…. The poll!

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Celia's TTT-Fave Scifi Romances #scifiromance #romance #scifi

celia kyle paranormal bbw romance author tuesday top ten

So, first, my definition of scifi includes anything that involves or has space ships.  Some consider this futuristic as well, but if there’s a space ship in or referenced, it qualifies.  I also may list a series as a single entry since I tend to gobble up all the books in a series, not just one.

Okay, on with the show!

The Ta’e'sha Chronicles by Theolyn Boese… Yummy, space traveling mermen!
Brides of the Kindred by Evangeline Anderson… Yummy, beastly space traveling menz!
Guardian Enjel by Viola Grace.  Awesome spin on angels.
Kegin Series by Brenna Lyons.  OMG Awesome!  Hot guys who love their earth mates.
The Gifted by Linda Mooney.  Aliens!  And a sexy man who risks it all for the alien he loves.
Velvet Glove Series by Sean Michael… BDSM AND scifi. What’s better?
Deep Space Mission Corp by Tymber Dalton.  Multi-partner space lovin’.  And lotsa love!
Icarus Unbound by Bernadette Gardner.  Lovelies with wings and a woman ready to risk her life for her man.
Jewels by Lakisha Spletzer. Great psy abilities and a growly feline-esque guy who wants to protect the woman he loves.
Planet Mail by Kate Pearce.  A ship crashes and suddenly our heroine is surrounded by hunky men.  Including one who demands that she belong to him.

That’s it!  Lotsa scifi, spaceships and love.  Snag a few, read ‘em and then you can thank me for directing you to the awesome.

Have a mwah! day!

Blurb for Head Over Tail

Whee!  Head Over Tail has been shipped back to ze editor and he anticipates having it back to me by this coming Saturday. Which means a projected release date of 10/8/12.  Yay!

Here’s the blurbage for you reading pleasure…

Head Over Tail by Celia KyleBeing kidnapped sucks…but then you find your mate…

Maddy Lane did not enjoy the whole “being kidnapped” thing. Then her knight in tight leather showed up to rescue her lioness-y ass and he turned out to be her O-M-G mate. Rawr. Except rawr turns into “running for her life” and then back to rawr again, but not before there’s a good bit of arguing with her mate in between. Sure, she’s a Sensitive. And, yeah, Sensitives are usually pushovers. Except Maddy has been getting “badass” lessons and she’s got no problem telling her hotter-than-hell mate where he can shove his orders and domineering attitude. Of course, it’d be a lot easier to be growly with him if he wasn’t so damn sexy.

Ricker Croft, council tracker and ferocious tiger, can’t figure out what to do with his deliciously curvy mate. She’s a study in contradictions and he hadn’t ever done well in school. Maddy is a Sensative. She’s supposed to be sweet and pliant and lovely and, most importantly, his. She sure as hell wasn’t supposed to be a vicious she-cat who sliced and diced a man attempting rape. And she definitely shouldn’t have disregarded a direct order from a more dominant shifter. Even more, the words “get the steel rod out of your ass” should have never passed her tempting lips.

Ricker knows that mating doesn’t equate to love, but he’s going to do his damndest to convince the woman who holds his heart that she can’t live without him. Even if it means turning his life upside down and embarrassing himself in the process.

Celia Kyle #fridayreads - Technically Dead by @tiafielding

Here’s my first #fridayreads!

Now, this isn’t a “review” per se.  Friday Reads is about what I’ve read this week (yes, I read that much) and loved.  Since I tend to read genres I enjoy and books whose excerpts snagged me, it’s kind of a given that I’ll like a book.

This week I snagged Technically Dead by Tia Fielding which was released on 7/20/12 by Dreamspinner Press.

This is my recap of the real blurb:

So, our hero (#1 Brandon Roland) is kicked to the curb by the ‘rents when he came out.  Assholes. Anyway.  Then, our super-hawt vampire hero (#2 Heath) rescues him when some thugs decide to use him as a punching bag.  We’re happy, right?  Wrong.  Heath kicks him out after a year.  Bitchy, but it turned out to be a good thing.

‘Cause 12 years later, he’s a social worker at a vamp/human kid’s shelter (teens-ish) and making the world a better place for vamp and human kind.  He’s still missing Heath, hard core, and gets a tattoo of a leaf (hence the vines on the cover) at the anniversary of him getting kicked to the curb.

Now, Heath is uber old. Like, old. And got ze freaked when he started having real feelings for Brandon way back when.  Hence the kickage.  But now…now he’s run into Brandon again (literally) and he’s thinking he got it all wrong.  So, they reconnect.  But THEN, Heath’s history (long history, remember?) catches up to them.  Dum, dum, dum….

/end recap

OMG Awesome.  It’s cut into a few parts, signifying big events in Brandon’s life and it really helps it all fit together.  We’re taken through Bran’s emotions, dealing with human/vamp issues, love and general make-it-through-life stuff.  Its a complete and utterly engrossing novel, something you’ll read and be fully satisfied with when you reach “the end”.  There’s some GREAT secondary characters and a nice contrast in how baby vamps learn how to be vamps.  You know, the “normal” turning stuff is all “you’re awake and have teeth!”.  This isn’t like that.  It goes into difficulties and how changing really affects the turned and how it affects relationships.

So, overall, I’ll repeat that it’s OMG Awesome.

Celia's BitsOCode Cross post WP to Social Net! #wpcode #wordpress #twitter #fb

Welcome to the first “official” Celia Kyle’s Bits O’ Code.  Earlier I told you about customizing post titles for triberr with custom fields. That post details on how to send titles to triberr OTHER than what you title your blog posts. Tres cool.

Today’s is about a very cool (and free!) plugin that allows the cross-posting of WordPress posts to various social networks.  NextScripts has developed and released the Social Networks Auto Post {SNAP} plugin which will take your WordPress post and pass it along to the following social networks:

Facebook
Twitter
Google +
Pinterest
LinkedIn
Blogger/Blogspot
Tumblr
Delicious
WordPress.com
StumbleUpon

Now, I will say that in order to take advantage of Pinterest and Google +, you must purchase an additional script to work in conjunction with SNAP.  Which… irks me a little.  I mean, I get it. Sorta.  I haven’t purchased the Pinterest add-on as I’m using the Pinterest Automatic Pin plugin for $5 from Code Canyon.  It does the job and, hey, it’s only $5!

So, for $5 (total) you can download SNAP as well as the Pinterest Auto Pin and you’re golden with three of the top social networks.

Go forth and social networkify!

Have a mwah! day!

Celia's Tuesday Top Ten-Bst Gay Rom Athrs #manlove #gayromance

celia kyle paranormal bbw romance author tuesday top ten

So, here’s the inaugural Tuesday Top Ten.  There’s tons of stuff I love, mostly writing/reading related, and I figured I’d share. Because I’m cool like that.  Right?  Maybe?

To kick things off, I’m outlining my FAVE gay romance authors.  As a word of warning, most of these authors write their sex…sexy.

On to the show!

Amy Lane –  I’ve made it no secret that I love her work.  She also makes me cry.  Which makes me sad, yet happy, at the same time.  Weird? Yes. But she’s still awesome.
T.J. Klune – Yet another peep that makes me cry.  His Bear, Otter and the Kid is tres da bomb. As is the follow up Who We Are.  I laughed, I cried and I wished I had a kid like the Kid.  Then I remember that I’m not keen on being pregnant.
Mary Calmes – She’s got some kick ass paranormal stuffs as well as several contemporaries that I couldn’t put down. Go fast like ninja and buy her.
Sean Michael – Love BDSM? Then you shall love Sean Michael.  Plus, the Hammer series is hella long.  It’ll take you forever to get through all of the books.  And then you crave more.  Or that’s just me.  It could be me…
Amber Kell – What-the-para?  She has a gajillion books out, 90% paranormal and all totally tubular.  I have bought way too many of hers and still crave more.  I really enjoyed the dragon series as well as the Moon Pack series.  Oh! Thresl Chronicles: Soldier Mine rocked, too.
Kim Dare – Kim f-ing Dare.  I have no words.  Another gay BDSM author, she totally gets me.  (Because ever book is written for me, right?)  My fave of all time is Duck! quickly followed by With a Kiss.
Chris Owen & Jodi Payne – I put these two together because they wrote the Deviations Series.  Which, O-M-G is awesome.  It’s a jillion pages that follow a couple through good times and bad and…sigh.  Read the whole series.  Just do it.
Drew Zachary – Two words: On Fire.  And then On Fire II.  The first book is totally fun with a hero who’s quick to pop and quicker to recover.  I laughed and… well, laughed.
Melanie Tushmore – I’ve only read one by her (because that’s all there is), but loved it!  A Bar Tender Tale
CB Conwy – One word: Himiko.  It’s a two book series with telepathy and psychokinesis and fun!  And hotness.  Buy them. Fast.

So, these are my fave manlove authors.  What are yours?  Any other recommendations for me?  I admit that I’m a rabid reader, so the more recs, the better.

And, oh!  I write gay romance, too.  Hey, what can I say?  No blog post is complete without pimpage.

Have a mwah! filled day!
