Lower East Side Girls Club
This picture makes me smile. As an author, I get a ton of free YA and MG books -- and I buy a ton, too. My writer friends are overstocked as well, so we give them to the Lower East Side Girls Club, which is an incredible, amazing organization.
Here I am with some of the younger Girls Club members on the day of delivery. Those boxes are less than half of what I was able to collect from Libba Bray and Barry Goldblatt, Alex London, Daniel Ehrenhaft and Soho Teen, David Levithan, Robin Wasserman and Gayle Forman.
If you're invested in creating opportunities lives of girls and young women, check out and donate to the LES Girls Club. They offer after-school classes in science, dance and yoga, sewing and fabric arts, visual arts, entrepreneurial projects, cooking, and a ton more. They have free books to take home in the lobby. They have a planetarium! And a green roof! Plus a counselor, college application help and more.

In the picture, Nory (our heroine) is in Dritten form. Dritten = dragon + kitten. She's a shape shifter. She is arguing with the nefarious Lacey Clench, who has been shrunk down to the size of a mouse.
It's book 2 in the series by me, Sarah Mlynowski and Lauren Myracle, edited by David Levithan and published by Scholastic. In stores May 31, 2016.

Tucson Book Fest and First Year Experience Conference Presentation
Had a really interesting panel conversation at the Tucson Book Festival with Andrew Smith (whose new book is The Alex Crow) and Jo Knowles (whose new book is Read Between the Lines). We talked about non-linear structures in fiction -- and other stuff. Here we are!
In unrelated news, I was recently at the FYE (First Year Experience) Conference, where authors and college professors come together to talk about books that might be food for "One Book One School" or "One Book One City" type reads for Freshman.
I had an amazing time and talked to lots of smart educators. I also got to hear presentations by Okey Ndibe (Foreign Gods, Inc.) , Anthony Marra (A Constellation of Vital Phenomenae) , Max Brooks (Harlem Hellfighters), and Bryan Stevenson (Just Mercy). Here's my talk about We Were Liars and the ways it might be useful for college freshmen as a group read, especially for incoming students who might be reluctant readers, yet.
It runs about 13 minutes. I tell some stories.
