Eric Butler's Blog

Go get Cuckoo

I'm working on a number of projects that have gotten in the way of keeping the posts going on the site, but I wanted to pop on and tell you about Mike Ennebach's newest book ...

I'm not sure why this graphic looks like 4 stars, cause this book is a 6 out of 5. Mike bares his soul and this is my must read book not written by Eric Butler for 2023.

Grab it ,here.

Popped in for a quick hello at Killercon

Headed down to Austin for Killercon on Saturday. If you don't follow me on Twitter, you might have missed out on some of the pics. I'm just going to drop them below. It was great to be there to see DW Hitz & Candace Nola win for best Anthology. Really cool moment.

DW Hitz, Patrick Harrison III, Mike Ennenbach, and I getting ready to drop our next album.

It was great meeting my editor Lisa Lee Tone face-to-face for the first time.

Always great to hang out with RJ Benetti. Dude knows how to tell a story.

You can see my & Nik's hands so I'm not sure what Mike is shocked about. 3/4ths of The Generator here. Go find it on Amazon: ,The Generator.

Judith & I are cover buddies. The joys of stock images, lol. It was nice to meet her and got to see her do a reading of her newest book, Beast of Burden coming out 8/20.

Always a joy to see Kenzie Jennings.

Everyone liked dinner ... really.

Wish I had more pics, but it was fun just hanging out and seeing everyone for the day.

So I heard you like stuff ...

If you didn't know, I have a store that sells shirts, hoodies, notebooks, and drinkware. I've just added a new shirt celebrating my love of huskies and horror.

You can also grab it on a pint glass, a water bottle, a coffee mug, and more.

Here are examples of other things on the site ...

TX Author Con 2023 was this weekend and I've already lost my shirt

Well, Kittle has claimed my event shirt, but luckily I got the coolest Vincent Price shirts from the amazing ,Fast Custom Shirts.

I wouldn't be where I am without these 2. If you haven't read Mike Ennenbach and Candace Nola, you really need to start. I was lucky to get to share a table with Mike last year, and to be next to Candace & Mike this year. They really are family.

If you don't know about Rayne Havok, well you aren't alone. She doesn't know how to take picture but she writes one hell of a story. Patrick C. Harrison III is a Texas treasure, and an amazing storyteller. Go find their books.

It's a bit blurry, but that's because I couldn't help but shake with excitement to meet the Danika Meyerson. She's just an all around great person, unless you make her mad and then look out.

I meet Canadian Horror Royalty. I wasn't sure if I need to bow or curtsy - who knows what happens up there - but it was an honor to drink maple syrup with him.

Across the way Donna Latham & Jason Nickey shared a table. Donna is my partner over on YouTube were we discuss horror in ,What's In The Box? Horror. Head over and check it out if you haven't already. Jason is killing it with his hillbilly horror. Go and read his books!

And lastly, I was bowled over when my friend Kim arrived to the event and presented me with a crocheted Goatman for my table. She's pretty amazing.

I'm sharing more over on my ,Facebook page. Head over and give me a follow or send me a friend request. Can't wait until next year.

Texas Author Con 2 is fast approaching

I've been super busy working on some upcoming projects, and getting the interviews done for all the writers of TX Author Con that wanted to do one. It's been fun talking with old friends and meeting new ones, and I think you will enjoy them as well. Head over to What's In the Box? Horror on YouTube or watch them on the TX Author Con site.

Also head over to the site and follow the links to get a "ticket" for the event. It's not necessary to get in, but it will give you an entry into the door prize giveaways! Get on it.

If you haven't heard, Matt Shaw is planning on coming. He's trying to clear his schedule to make the trip across the pond to hang out with us in Texas. Duncan Shaw is heading down from Canada as well. It's going to be a fun 2-day when you throw in all the great Texas and US writers coming. See you July 14-15.

Busy time

With Texas Author Con coming up in a month, I've been super busy trying to get interviews done and my other projects. I'm sliding the blog to once a week for a bit, and after the event, I'll re-evaluate how I want to go about this.

I'm going to share a couple of the interviews I think people should watch.

Polish ...

When I got started, I had no idea what I was doing. I just started writing and putting books out. While I tried my best to make sure there were no issues with my books, I think we can all agree I'm more of a writer than an editor. My first 3 had some help in the area of editing, but I do recognize they could use a bit more.

It was dumb luck that paired me up with my editor today. She was in charge of an anthology I sent a story into, and her notes and comments clicked in my head. I tracked her down and she became the editor of the Donn, TX series and all my Godless titles (save Kiss Me Where It Smells Funny because of a time crunch). I sent her The Pope Lick Massacre to read, and she offered to give it a polish. Once I learned this simply cleans up the noticeable mistakes, and doesn't effect the story at all, I was all in. I didn't want to rewrite these books, but I do want them to be as clean as possible for future readers.

The Shadow Within is going through the polish now, and I have big plans for my first novel. Stay tuned for that. Then I will have her take a look at Sins of the Past.

So if grammatical mistakes were holding you back from my first 3, know I'm on it.

Grab The Pope Lick Massacre on ,Amazon.
