Hints of July and August

Originally published at Robin Hobb. You can comment here or there.

Hello!

Currently I am in lovely Wellington, New Zealand and very much enjoying myself!

But the Office Kat is at home, hard at work, and she has already thought far ahead to events in July and August.

So, in this very hasty post without lovely photos, I offer you the following possibilities

July is also the month for the San Diego Comic Con! I will be there for the full weekend wandering about, and will also be on a panel and doing signings.

And we possibly have an event with Terry Brooks in Seattle at the B&N bookstore. As soon as I have full details, I’ll share them here!

August

In Perth, Australia

Originally published at Robin Hobb. You can comment here or there.

And getting ready for SupaNova tomorrow! And yes I’m excited for it!

I know I’m a bit behind in keeping this website up to date, but I’ll blame that on not much time to sit down at the laptop.

I have been doing updates on the Robin Hobb Facebook, and even on the twitter @robinhobb for day to day short news. When I get home, I hope I’ll be able to put up more of the cosplay and SupaNova photos.

I’m hobnobbing (HA!) with some amazing people this weekend as we ride to and fro on the bus. John Barrowman (Captain Jack from Torchwood!) and John Heder (Napoleon Dynamite and Blades of Glory) Katie Cassidy from Arrow. And that’s just the a few of the famous folk you can see at SupaNova. I think we have almost the entire cast from Star Trek Continues.

And then there are the graphic novel people! Alan Davis and Paul Ryan for example.

And, well, too many others to name. Check out the guest list at http://www.supanova.com.au/guests/ It’s a cross section of popular culture, featuring talented people from all across the arts spectrum.

So I consider myself very fortunate! And I’ll try to post more photos when I get home.

SupaNova!!!!!! And Arty Bees in Wellington, New Zealand

Originally published at Robin Hobb. You can comment here or there.

So this will be a very quick update as I’m sitting in LAX waiting for the boarding announcement for my plane.

I am doing SupaNova in Australia this year. Not just Sydney this weekend and Perth the next weekend. In November I will return to do both Adelaide and Brisbane. (By November, the new book, Fool’s Assassin, will be out. So SupaNova very kindly invited me to return for that!)

Very cool news. Guess who else is doing SupaNova? Stan Lee! I hope I will get the chance to stammer and try to express my admiration. Here is the complete Guest List. It’s impressive!

And I’ve scheduled an ‘after Supanova’ jaunt for myself to New Zealand. I will finally get a chance to meet John Howe. He did the first covers for the Robin Hobb books in the UK, and also for Soldier Son. We’ve corresponded but I’ve never had the chance to meet him in person.

And then, I will be making a special stop at Arty Bees Books on Thursday, June 26th at5:30 PM to do a signing there. I’m very pleased to do it as they were so helpful during my Birthday Game!

So that’s it, and I’d best put away the laptop and get ready to board soon!

Things to Make You Happy

Originally published at Robin Hobb. You can comment here or there.

Well, I’m not having the cheeriest day here, for reasons that are completely within my control if I just exert some self discipline.

But who wants to do that?

So instead I have gathered some charming links guaranteed to brighten the day of any sane person. And most of the rest of us, too!

First off, if you are willing to contribute to a very good cause (A wolf sanctuary) you may receive an amazing reward. Such as George RR Martin’s Hat! Or perhaps a helicopter ride with him. Donate $20,000 and with both style, elan and gore, George will slaughter you in his next book!!! Go here to see what else you might get!

Now if I were as adept at these things as George RR Martin, I’d hop on there and say that for $50,000, I’d devise an interesting fate for George in my next book!

What else is nice to hear? Well, this was a nice bit of news for me. :) There is a Best of Robin Hobb e-book collection (UK only this time) available from Sainsbury. They selected the novels they think are my best and are offering them at a reduced price. I’m not sure how long they will have reduced prices.

Another bit of news that cheered me was a Twitter from my editor. Anne is at Phoenix Comic Con, and said: “The look of surprise and joy on the faces of longtime fans when I give them copies of @robinhobb’s Fool’s Assassin is totally making my day!”

And that twitter makes my day!

And now I am off to brighten my own day by remembering where I put my noise canceling headphones and my only comfortable pair of black heels! Time to pack for Australia and SUPANOVA in Sydney and Perth!

These are the new covers for the US paperback editions of The Liveship Traders Trilogy!

Please bear in mind that they will gradually move into the shops as existing stock is sold out. So they may not be immediately available. If you passionately loved the old covers (and I do think they were also wonderful) this may be your last chance to complete your set with matching covers. Or, if you need to replace the dog-eared, tattered covers that you’ve lent out over and over to your friends, here is a wonderful excuse to do so!

But what if you are a lover of e-books? We have not forgotten you. Here is the lovely new cover for our new US e-book bundle of the Liveship Traders Trilogy.

Liveships trilogy e-book bundle

The Liveship Traders Trilogy occurs after the events in The Farseer Trilogy. The events in this tale take place south of the Six Duchies, in the fabled city of Bingtown, where it is said “If a man can imagine a thing, he can buy it in Bingtown.” Here the fabulous and magical trade goods from the mysterious Rain Wilds are bought and sold. And here, too, slaves are being bought and sold despite Bingtown’s long tradition against such a trade. In the midst of this, the Vestrit family, once wealthy merchants now fallen on hard times, must deal with the death of their patriarch even as their family ship finally awakens to sentience.

The cover art here is created by Didier Graffet. I was delighted when I first saw his images of the Farseers on the various covers he did for the Soleil graphic novels of The Farseer Trilogy. So I am delighted to now have his work on the US paperback covers. To see more of his work in general, visit his website or for a more specific Farseer glimpse, try this link.

While only a few characters from The Farseer Trilogy appear in The Liveship Traders trilogy, this part of the story contains key events that definitely shape all the befall Fitz and the Fool when they return to the center of the stage in The Tawny Man Trilogy.

Signed Copies of Fool’s Assassin, US edition

Originally published at Robin Hobb. You can comment here or there.

Many of you already know about The Signed Page. This is a website for bibilophiles, run by Shawn Speakman. Through this site, you can pre-order a book and request a personalized inscription or a simple autograph. Shawn takes it from there, ordering stacks of books for the authors to sign when they visit him. He then meticulously packs the books and sends them out to readers who have pre-ordered them.

Two things to note: you must pre order and pay for your book, so Shawn knows how many to order. And overseas shipping can be very expensive, in some cases more than the price of the book. Shawn is not ripping you off. When I mailed off books for my Birthday Game, I was horrified at the postage rates!

US cover Fool's Assassin

Here is the LINK

to go directly to The Signed Page and order Fool’s Assassin. But I think you should follow the first link and take a look at all the books he is currently offering. The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks? The High Druid’s Blade by Terry Brooks. Skin Game by Jim Butcher. Not to mention all the signed stock he has. Take a look. You may still be able to acquire that signed first edition you thought you had missed.
