What someone did to my cardboard cut out.

Being lazy for the Lord.
"Guess what my favorite sky spirit is? There are three: wind, water and sun. Guess which one is my favorite?" Oh boy. My four year old McRae said that in the back seat of our car the other day and I almost drove off the road into a gully and/or a holler.
It wasn't a difficult theological issue to address. My wife and I didn't flinch, we just weren't expecting the Nick show, "Penguins of Madagascar" to teach our daughter about sky spirits.
That was easy issue, but there are harder issues to...

Weird Prayer Requests
"Maybe it's a demon." My wife says and I can't tell if she's joking at first.
She must be, but at first I am not so sure. My wife leads a Community Bible Study (CBS) group of about 20 woman every Tuesday morning. And for some reason, our four year old McRae has thrown up every Monday night, the night before the Bible study, for four weeks in a row. Well it's not a perfect streak, McRae didn't throw up the one week that CBS was canceled.
And on the Tuesday morning in question, she got up...

Arguing about the faith of U2.
U2 is definitely a Christian band. Or they are definitely not. I'm positive it's one of those two.
It's hard to be sure, but what I am sure of is that we Christians like debating that. I learned that the hard way when I called the band "NeedtoBreathe," the "Christian U2."
Comments lit up as people on both sides made their arguments. I love NeedtoBreathe and was surprised about this reaction. But maybe you've never experienced this particular phenomenon. If not, allow me to summarize what...
3 Rules of Christian Satire
Relevant Magazine recently gave me the chance to write an article about the 3 rules of Christian satire. I don't consider myself an expert but in the last two years I've had the chance to learn how critically beautiful and surprisingly fun satire can be in the midst of faith. Click here to check out the article.

Win 20 copies of the Stuff Christians Like book or 20 subscriptions to Relevant Magazine.
I grew up in Hudson, Massachusetts. When it comes to basketball, I am a fan of the Boston Celtics. Cameron Strang, the publisher of Relevant Magazine, is an Orlando Magic fan. As fate would have it, both teams made it to the Eastern Conference finals. So what did Cameron and I decide to do about that?
Simple, if the Orlando Magic win the series, I will donate a box of 20 autographed Stuff Christians Like books to Cameron to give away to readers of Relevant Magazine. If the Boston Celtics win, ...

Win 6 different books by 6 different authors today.
I am not one to throw around the word "bonanza." In a lot of ways I respect that word too much to just bandy it about casually. So it is with no small degree of seriousness that I say today is a "book bonanza."
We're giving away six different books today. Three people will have the chance to win a bunch of books. Here's what is included:
Everyday Absurdities: Insights from the World's Most Trivial Man By Tyler Stanton

Starting a Christian Blog.
(Kevin Ring is approximately 9 feet tall. I know this because once at a conference he raised his hand during a Q&A and asked me, "Why did God take the unicorns away?" Legit question, legit question. The reason was because we didn't respect their beauty and/or their stabbing horns. Seems pretty obvious when you think about it. Fortunately, Kevin does a lot more than just awesome questions. Now he writes awesome guest posts. Enjoy.)
If you're like me then you started a Christian blog because...
Facebook & Twitter
Yesterday's post was a good example of how funny other folks are. That idea was something someone emailed me. I thought it was great and then turned it into a post. I'd like to do that more often. So I'm going to start holding impromptu brainstorming sessions on both Twitter and Facebook. When I have an idea that will be a lot funnier if you help me, I'll post it on the Jonathan Acuff Facebook page or throw it on Twitter for feedback. I think that will be fun.
