13 to Life and Two Book Covers to Choose Between

One of the great things about having been with a "Big 5" publisher like St. Martin's Press is the care they took with my debut series' book covers.

I loved the 13 to Life series' book covers and readers did too.

Now, having gotten my rights back last year the responsibility for things like book covers all falls on me. I mean, that's cool, but geez, I want to make sure it's right, you know? So I decided to do an A/B cover test. Honestly, my Wolf Pack members (they are awesome) got to see A, B, and C... and loved C so much I (cruel thing that I am) snatched it away from them for Book 6. I know: There's NOT a Book 6.

Not yet. ;)

The covers were done by Get Covers Design (and I love working with them).

So A and B are being tested briefly on a number of social media platforms (my Wolf Pack was pretty seriously split between them) and I'll know the results from that data Sunday morning. Then I'll freak out, freak out some more, and hope we're making the right choice choosing the one we choose. Then the real race is on to get everything processed the way it needs to be and ready for my first signing of the book at a small regional library (the amount of finger-crossing I'm doing makes typing difficult ;) ).

Let's see if I can share the potential covers with you, here...

So...that'd be a nope...

Let's try a link instead (sorry to ask to whisk you away, but let's see...)
The Substack A/B Test Post That should get you to the actual "ads" I'm running to test (which is kinda cool if you like having the curtain drawn back).

Or... You can pop over to my Instagram.

So, if you want to have your say about the new cover, pop on over to one of those links before 7pm Saturday the 7th (EST).

I will be here NOT stressing out while time for the final results Pietr...peter...out.

Well, Hello Again...

Looks like my last post here was in 2021. Sorry 'bout that!

I hope you all have been thriving in my absence---doing creative things, living life fiercely, and being kind whenever you can.

So where the heck have I been?

Around the time of my last post, I got picked up by a highly respected ghostwriting company and they've kept me quite busy. I'm working on my ninth book with them (as well as coaching other writers and doing some occasional editing) so, although you may have read some of my more recent works, you wouldn't know it. ;)

I also had another book published that I can tell you about (because it bears my name), but I'll get that link put up here in a little bit. It was fun and very much an experiment on my part. Also, my lovely agent, Richard Curtis, won my rights back for both of my series with St. Martin's Press (they were very gracious about it all). Richard then retired, but having my rights reverted to me has been such a strange blessing....

I've been able to return to Jessie and Pietr's world of Junction and spend some time reworking a little of their story. I've finally been doing some of the things I still wanted to after I'd been able to step out of their world a dozen years ago and clear my head.

More about that soon. If you'd like to hear some of the songs I've been listening to in the process, here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6If...

More later---take care!

Welcome to Spring!

Don't get me wrong--I love winter (as long as I don't need to drive on dangerous roads), and summer can be lovely (unless it's hot without a breeze...or buggy), and autumn is often my favorite season (so beautiful and dramatic), but spring wakes me up. I want to do ALL. THE. THINGS.

I want to dig around in my gardens, spend time laughing at bouncing lambs, cleaning, cooking, crafting, discover snippets of spring sunlight to sit and read in, and find inspiration.

I want to write and revise and grow as an artist.

And this spring there are contests I'm running as I prepare for the release of my newest book, Neither Sword Nor Fire. Have you entered the first contest for a $25 B&N card? Info's in my newsletter and on my blog (and Rafflecopter).

Go, have fun, and enjoy the rejuvenation spring brings!

Surprised by the French Kindle Versions of the 13 to Life Series

Wednesday night, as I was trying to update things online in advance of my newest book's release (slated for June), I discovered covers and information for the French Kindle versions of the 13 to life series. These versions evidently started releasing in 2020, to my delight and surprise.

You can find the first cover and information in French here: ShannonDelany.com. I tried to share the book's new edition here, but it seems the publisher uses the same ISBN-type number for both formats, or some such.

One of the things I enjoy about other countries getting rights to my books is seeing how they interpret the book into a cover to suit the tastes and interests of their own audiences. It's always pretty amazing!

The Newest Book I am Writing...

The newest book I am writing deals with...

*The weight of the decisions we make
*Trauma and Tragedy
*Love and loss
*Murder and madness
*The Armenian Genocide

...and is expected to release in early June.

Although I earned my MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies in 2020 (did the whole "virtual walk" for graduation due to COVID-19), the main thing I know is there is much I don't know, and much I can't know.

So many important sources have been lost or destroyed.

But this story needs more tellers, and I've spent nearly two years studying this genocide, and the people involved, and one very odd moment within it (and more than a year working on the planning and writing of the book).

I will be sharing more soon. <3

WEATHER WITCH's Thunderstruck Tour and How YOU Can Get Involved!

So much has happened so fast! As many of you know, my new YA series (through St. Martin's Press) is in the steampunk genre (though, for reasons readers will quickly come to understand, I call "stormpunk"). The first novel, WEATHER WITCH, releases in the United States on June 25.

In this post, I'll cover:

*Where you can pre-order WEATHER WITCH now;

*Where I will be signing this year (so far--the list keeps growing--with and without WEATHER WITCH);

*How to get your book store, library or tea house to host me for a signing and interactive steampunk-themed party (a few with live music);

*How to be part of the WEATHER WITCH "Thunderstruck Blog Tour";

*How your book club or summer reading program can win some cool stuff just by doing what you love to do--READING!

WEATHER WITCH is already available for Pre-Order Here:

Barnes & Noble

Books-A-Million

Book Depository

Amazon.com

Powell's Books

Some of My Favorite Indies?

Mysteries on Main Street

The Green Toad

Flights of Fantasy

RiverRead

Colgate Bookstore

The Briar Patch

If YOU have a favorite indie, please pre-order WEATHER WITCH through them.

Tell them I love them and if they want book marks or postcards or mini posters (or if they can handle hosting me for an event), ask them to contact me. I LOVE people!

*2013 Signing Schedule (Conferences/Conventions/Chapter Events So Far):

BEA (Book Expo America) at NYC (courtesy of Month 9 Books). If you want to bring your 13 TO LIFE novels or your WEATHER WITCH ARC, or SPIRITED (from Leap Books) or last year's Month 9 Anthology (TWO AND TWENTY DARK TALES) I will sign ANY of those for you, too, because I <3 my readers. If you can't bring your 13 TO LIFE books to BEA but want them signed, find me fast for a special book plate. :) Yes, I <3 you that much!

ALA in Chicago This will be the first conference I will be signing WEATHER WITCH at and it's courtesy of St. Martin's Press (of course) and RWA (Romance Writers of America--I will be signing at their booth).

PLRW (Pocono-Lehigh Romance Writers Chapter) in Easton, PA--I'll be returning to give a Workshop on Worldbuilding in September

I will not be attending RWA or RT this year as I tighten my belt in some ways (which bums me out, but I plan on returning next year).

*The Thunderstruck Tour (Blog Tour, Radio Interviews, and In-Person Events):

Book tour events started being scheduled late last week and spots are filling fast. If you have a book store or a library, a teen center, a book club, an arts center, a YMCA or a Rotary Club (are you catching my drift?) that would like to host me for a talk on creativity, writing, publishing, history, steampunk or to have me do artsy-crafty and historically-inspired activities, contact me at info (AT) shannondelany [DOT] com (and do it fast)!

What and Where Wednesday: WIN BOOKS!

Last Wednesday I shared great sites for writing prompts for aspiring authors so this Wednesday I wanted to provide a quick list for readers. The following are a few websites very well known and respected for giving away books to lucky winners. This is far from a comprehensive list (and really doesn't include bloggers) but it's a quick start.

Let's begin with one I adore! Every week a new book and a different author is spotlighted on the popular Free Book Friday website. New books show up on the website on Saturday and winners use a Raffle Copter to enter, the winner being selected on the Friday immediately following. FreeBookFriday.com includes exclusive interviews and other cool things for readers and if you're a blogger, this is a great spot to jump in and check out some books and authors you might want to do a Waiting-on-Wednesday post about, or maybe interview!

FreeBookFriday.com has grown tremendously since its start several years ago and now includes different subsites for teens/YA (TEENS), the fiction subsite
(FICTION), the non-fiction option(Non-FICTION), and one for indie novels (INDIE). Usually there are multiple copies offered up of each novel so there are multiple winners of each genre. So every week readers have great chances to win terrific new books!

Another respected site created by great people where you can win novels on is Fresh Fiction. The site's full of great stuff about fiction authors and there are blogs and columns and reviews. They list the month's contests in a handy format and you can click through the links to learn more. FRESH FICTION

Bitten by Books is a cool site with book reviews, author interviews and contests that focuses on paranormal/fantasy fiction and lists a link under "Great Events This Week at Bitten by Books" that includes book giveaways and other author-related contests for all sorts of great things. Check out BITTEN BY BOOKS!

Two other sites that regularly give away novels of many genres to readers who enter to win--the idea being that readers will read and objectively and maturely review the books they receive. You must have a free membership with them, but the perks are cool--these (especially Goodreads) are all about community, connection, and participation.

These sites include:
GOOD READS
LIBRARY THING

So get on out there, read, enter, win, and get to read some more! :) Good luck!
