And Puppy Makes Three
by Gail Gaymer Martin
Perfectionist Martin Davis's life is in turmoil. The lonely businessman' s search for companionship led him to adopt a dog--a rather rambunctious terrier. And now Martin's at his wits' end. When dog trainer, Emily Ireland offers to help, Martin is grateful--and intrigued.

Time Off
Right now I'm between books, which is always a strange place to be. I'll admit that, like most people wired to write, I'm happier when I'm writing. But having some time off between projects is necessary, too. How is a writer supposed to write about life if all we do is sit behind a computer?
So, while I've been doing a bit of reading and thinking and planning my next project, most of my time lately has been filled more with family and general day-to-day busyness.
I ...

The Subtleties of Creativity

Anyone who's ever seen a rerun of the classic series Frasier knows how subtle excellent taste is supposed to be. Niles and Frasier seemed forever in pursuit of the finest art or wine, the best caviar, the most exclusive club, while their father was happy to settle for a beer in front of the tube (they had picture tubes in televisions back then). Martin, their father, never did figure out exactly what his sons saw in those things they called "the best." Oh, he recognized the hoity-toity pride ...

Is There Morality in Technology?

Recently as I was driving down the main street of my hometown, I happened to see what struck me as a very strange sight: A man dressed in the full vestiges of a priest, with long, dark hair pulled out of the way with a hair band, and a nearly equally long beard flowing down his gaunt chest.
Perhaps that's not such a strange sight in some cities, but what struck me about it was that he was talking on a cell phone. Believe it or not, that's what I found odd. Not the long ...

5 Good Things About the End of School

Since I'm a parent with school-aged children (my youngest is 12), the end of the school year is a time of transition. Despite what the calendar says, this week marks the first week of summer around here. If my youngest son were writing this blog post, he would no doubt come up with far more than 5 things to be happy about. But since I'm a parent who works at home—and an older parent to boot—I'm actually quite proud of myself for having come up with 5. Here they are:
1) I get to spend...

Silly Bandz and other crazes

My middle-school-aged son was recently telling me about the latest craze in schools these days, Silly Bandz. They're little shaped rubber bands that the kids are all wearing on their wrists. All kinds of animals (from current to extinct as well as mythical), musical instruments, people, holiday shapes and symbols—and of course in every variety of bright colors. Who knew something like this would take off? Just like the cabbage patch kids, Tickle-Me-Elmo, the Wii and Wii Fit…...
