Ten Years Later

I thought about saying where I was. I considered sharing stories about growing up in Manhattan, and how the Twin Towers were your nightlight. There's this desire to try to make sense of it, to find meaning and reason in something ripped your city apart.

So I'm just going to post a link to Jon Stewart's Daily Show monologue from Sept. 20, which summed it up perfectly.

Presenting…Emma's Crest & a Giveaway!

Hey guys! I promised if I hit 1000 followers on Twitter, I would reveal what Emma's medallion—the Crest of Aglaeon—looks like. Well, I'm a woman of my word. And that's not all! I'm going to give away FIVE signed copies of Spellbound—each winner will also get temporary tattoos of Emma's crest as well! (Maybe to attract the attention of your very own Brendan….?)

As Emma reads in Hadrian's Medieval Legends, "My crest was a simple shield, with a faint outline of a unicorn in the center. A sword and a rose were crossed behind the shield, and the bloom was wilted, a detail I'd never noticed before. A petal fell from the rose—it looked like the flower was crying. Under the sword, a crescent  moon with a small star appeared where the petal was on the opposite side of the medallion."

But what does the ancient, slightly tarnished medallion look like? Check it out after the jump!

Want to win a signed copy of Spellbound and your own temporary tattoos?

Click here to enter! Only one entry per person, please.

The contest is now closed.

The giveaway ends on September 8—good luck everyone!

Thanks to Patrick Moroney at Patrick M. Design for creating the Crest of Aglaeon!

Want to See Emma's Crest?

Those of you who have read Spellbound know that the medallion Emma wears on a chain around her neck is more than just a cute little charm. It's mystical. It's magical. It's loaded with more meaning than a Fellini film. And I'm dying to show you guys what it looks like! So here's the scoop: When I hit 1,000 followers on Twitter, I'm going to post a picture of the medallion—and give away five signed copies of Spellbound (along with temporary tattoos of the crest!).

If you're on Twitter, please follow me at @caralynnshultz! I promise not to spam you. Generally, I post links like this one about Ryan Gosling being adorbs.
