If the scientists who made her find out, they’ll erase what remains of who she was.

“Rebel Heart” by Lizzy Ford

How do the Greek gods kill time? Because they’re always bored. It’s an unavoidable downside of being alive for thousands of years. So, they play games. Games with human players. Remember Shakespeare? Yeah, that was Apollo. Bonnie and Clyde? Aphrodite vs Ares.

It’s Aphrodite’s turn once again in the rounds of competitions, and she’ll defend her domain: Love. She hasn’t lost a competition on her turf in over three millennia, and she’s not about to start now. Apollo is her first competitor, and he’s on a mission to win. If he wins, he’ll get a token; a favor that Aphrodite must fulfill. And with that favor, he’ll finally get the one woman he’s never been able to have.

Aphrodite and Apollo will choose their human players, and if Aphrodite can’t get them together before the clock runs out, Apollo will get his way. And she couldn’t have that.

Lex and Dean are perfect for each other. They just don’t know it yet.

Dean is a perpetual bachelor, and a man-whore. A brooding, gorgeous, rock star man-whore. Lex always has a boyfriend, but she’s never let anyone in enough to let herself go. Not really. Not ever. Aphrodite has her work cut out for her, but if she can’t make it work, no one can.

But she has more at stake than just Lex and Dean. Apollo killed her mortal love, and that beef has been dragging on for thousands of years. Ares, the douchebag, is forever trying to start a fight, and get Aphrodite into bed. And Persephone, her best friend, is the one person she can confide in, laugh with, and always count on for a healthy helping of bacon when she’s having a bad day.

Follow the gods as they fight, laugh, cry, lose love, and gain power. Making a mess with humans has never been so fun.

This is the first book I have read written by Staci Hart, and was reading it specifically to provide a review.

I must say I am happy that I agreed to review this book. Staci takes what could be a stale subject and gives a life of its own. The story line is based on the God and Goddesses of Olympus, not of old times but in the here and now. After many millennium she tweaks their God and Goddess eccentricities and gives them a bit of a human twist. They still play their games with mere humans but not without consequences that come back. Karma knows no boundaries in her book. She provides excellent visual language without drowning you in excessive detail which lets you be in the story with the characters. There is a section of the book where she is talking about contests and tokens being bet between the characters’ which got a little muddy for me but was able to still get the jest of the plot line was after re-reading that part. All in all I enjoyed the book very much and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I would recommend this book. Not for young audiences.

About the Author ~

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife; even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f, ends with k, and there a uc in there. Just saying. From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics. But let’s be honest, she’s mostly writing.

Book Review: Cherish Me by Jennifer Culbreth

18718641

Haunted by vivid nightmares that force her to relive the night she was shot, Judy Adams struggles to heal physically and emotionally. Rejected by her family; she finds a ray of hope when an unexpected friend shows up on her doorstep. However her recovery is quickly derailed when she begins receiving sinister threats.

Fueled by revenge and vowing to stop the one causing the terror towards the one he loves, Jace Alexander along with the men of VIP Bodyguard Service decide to take matters into their own hands. Using the training they received in the military and enlisting the help of some unexpected allies, they stumble upon some dark secrets from the past.

With danger and tragedy looming around every corner, can their relationship withstand the strain? Or will it crack under the pressure taking with it everything they cherish most?

Linda’s Review:
3.5 STARS

These are getting better, but I am in the minority it seems. I still think there are parts that are cheesy and in part that is because of how fast a lot of the characters seems to become emotionally involved in each other. I’ve formed attachments, but some of these feel like they happened in less than a month. I’m not saying you can’t form some kind of attachment, but everyone is “brother/sister/family.” And I love a great romance, but I can’t always relates to how the characters react to certain situations and not just romantically. For example, Judy first reaction is to race into a situation…um, you were just shot doing exactly that…that tends to make people more cautious unless there is absolutely NO other option…and she is surrounded by strong, highly trained men…she has no excuse for some of her behavior when she has that kind of back up.

What I do like is that the story picks up with Jace and Judy, but you still get more Ryan and Abbi, and of course the other guys that make up the bodyguard team with some new additions. We were introduced to Jace and Judy in book 1. Their story began there so we don’t go back, but instead move forward looking at how their lives change after Judy was shot. Things didn’t end there with Trent still on the loose, and things get a bit more complicated when one of Judy’s childhood friends makes an appearance. At first I was a concerned as to how the author would change the focus from Abbi to Judy as it relates to Trent, but she did manage that pretty smoothly with the introduction of Alexis. And this allowed the suspense from book 1 to continue with resolution in book 2.

So my rating is strictly based on how I struggled to relate to some parts of this book, and in parts to how they are written. Some areas are written formally, and some more casually. I am definitely a fan of a more relaxed style unless the entire book is written formally…not sure I’m explaining this correctly, but that is not to say I don’t still like these characters and look forward to continuing on with some of the other guys’ stories.

I was born and raised in a small town that until maybe a year ago, you couldn’t find on a map. After high school I did what every wild child from a small town would do and kicked rocks to the farthest college I could go to. Which happened to be about 20 miles out of town, I didn’t trust my old clunker of a truck to go much farther than that. After graduating college with a shiny new piece of paper hung in a $3.00 Wal-mart frame I got my first “big girl” job with Synovus Financial Corporation.

During the five years I stayed at the company, I bought a new truck, moved into my own apartment (in the same small town), and met the man who would eventually accept my craziness and ask me to marry him. I am privileged to call myself a US Navy Wife. My husband currently serves on the USS Hue City, which has been deployed more times during our marriage than it has been home. But we look forward to a three year shore duty in Colorado Springs.

I have been very lucky to have had the support of my friends and family during the years and I look forward to many more years full of there snide remarks and sarcasm. I wouldn’t want them any other way.

Book Review: “Protect Me” by Jennifer Culbreth

18622577

Abbi Hastings had never been fearless. She’d been firmly entangled in her small town roots her entire life until an unexpected inheritance provided her a chance to escape. As she took the only opportunity she’d have to get out, Abbi left her world behind and boarded the plane with her one way ticket to Los Angeles.

Relentless and fighting for her own independence, it all goes to hell when fate throws a twist into her plans. Everything changes the day she accidentally falls into the arms of Ryan. Tall, dark eyed, and handsome CEO of LA’s hottest bodyguard service who is fighting some dark demons of his own.

Can Abbi take a leap of faith and dare to experience all that the world has to offer, accepting that fate has brought her here into the arms of the man who will protect her? Protect her mind, body, and soul.

Linda’s Review:

3 STARS

There were definitely some cheesy parts to the book, but overall I did enjoy it. The start in particular had me questioning how well this would turn out, but once I got past the instant bonding of the girls and some of the lines, things started to pick up. Especially with the intro of Ryan, Gabe, and Jace. The story line wasn’t unique, but one many could relate to.

A couple of years after her mother passes away, Abbi later learns her dad did as well and left her a little money. She decides to move from her hometown across country to LA. Lucky for her, she not only finds an apartment, but a job as a bartender. Then instant bonding with 2 other female bartenders, and her first run in with Ryan. How lucky can a girl be? This was why I really wondered how well this would turn out, because although not impossible, too good to be true right? However, things do start to play out a little bit more believable for me after that. Ryan is ex-military and hesitant to get involved in a relationship. Having money, Abbi thinks he is out of her league anyway and meets another guy who seems better suited. Things don’t go quite as planned, and after one final fortuitous run in with Ryan, they decide to give the relationship a go.

Now what did throw me was the three musketeers seem to have a falling out. Judy meets Jace, and Ashley meets Gabe, but everything is not kosher for the 2 other “couples”. Somehow, Ashley withdraws from the girls. Things are moving along ok with Judy and Jace, and Abbi and Ryan are progressing at a pretty steady pace. Again, a little mushy for me at times. Now along with the building of the relationships, things are not quite so smooth at the bar. The title is “protect me”. In part because of Ryan’s business as a bodyguard, but even more in regards to his feelings and instincts as it relates to Abbi. Through no fault of her own, Abbi seems to attract dangerous people. In this case, her boss involves her in something that will soon endanger her and Judy. Again, not a unique twist, but believable if you live that kind of lifestyle.

I can say that I did get caught up in Abbi, Ryan, Jace, Judy, Gabe, and Ashley’s lives. One of my favorite characters was Gabe. I’m hoping to see a lot more of him in future books. If you’re looking for a romance with a little suspense, you may enjoy this. I can’t say others won’t find it too predictable, but it was cute and the writing got better further along.

Spotlight on Paul Douglas Novell’s New Release: “Paulyanna International Rent Boy” by Paul Douglas Lovell

Lizzyland is pleased to present Paul Douglas Lovell’s new release: “Paulyanna International Rent Boy”

paulyanna-final-cover-ebook-682x1024Paulyanna: International Rent-boy is an honest and frank portrayal of a working-class male prostitute’s life.

Many factors contribute in delivering the main character onto the streets. Some very typical such as early abandonment, poverty, lack of education and sexual abuse. But Paul does not dwell too much on the past and refuses to allow these events to mar his ambition.

At eighteen a lost train ticket leaves him stranded in the city after a job interview. He uses his questionable wits to make a quick decision that steers him down a rather dodgy path.

Without added glamour or grit, Paul shares the raw accounts of his life as a rent-boy in the 90s, from London to Los Angeles. It may not have been pretty, and there was risk and danger as well as fun and thrills, but Paul had the audacity to succeed in his quest to obtain happiness, security and wealth.

This is not an erotic tale. It is an ordinary account of day-to-day life as viewed from a unique perspective. A peek into what really goes on behind the glassy-eyed smile of a male street worker. Read about his life in this optimistic and fascinating roadbook adventure.

pauly-photo-240x300

About Paul: A Black Country Lad who now lives in the Black Boy Land or Schwarzbubenland as it is called in Switzerland. Life started off badly and after spending a big part of it on the margins of society working as a rent-boy (gay male prostitute) I eventually found my husband (civil partner) in 2000 and a new chapter in my life began.

Years on and we are still very happily married, or at least I am. He kept every single one of his promises and didn’t tire or change his attitude towards me. Never once have I felt cold, hungry or scared.

I now live in a detached property with a large garden in a small hamlet of 895 residence. Set in the foothills of the Jura mountains. I am surrounded on all sides by hilly forests, a small stream runs through it’s centre. It really is a proper piece of paradise. When I’m feeling extra spiritual it is easy to imagine. We are nestled in the palms of an almighty giant. God if you like. Whom, despite all I had done saw fit to watch over me and guide me to a life worth living. I have a beautiful black cat called Darcy and also a Gordon Setter girl-dog name Asherah. We live an idyllic existence.

I now enjoy the small pleasures in life, gone are the pressures of Big City Life nowadays, I can see sky out of my windows. I experience every season. In the Spring and Summer, whilst out walking in the woods we often make a fire to cook a jumbo sausage. My dog likes sausage walks. Autumn is spend harvesting our homegrown and raking up leaves. I spend a lot of my time gardening. Chopping and stacking wood for the log burner that heats our home throughout the Winter season. I’m a Glippy a glamourous hippy. We are extremely green and energy efficient, I’m a recycling master.

I wear what I call my doggy clothes mostly, saving my glad rags for when visiting the city. I like to pretend I’m living in the olden days and going to town is a really big event. So that is the new improved me. I must admit I do still enjoy cannabis but now, I drink red wine also.

“I always had a dream to become a writer and although not quite there yet am doing everything I can to make it a reality.”

Double Cover Reveal: “Cursed” and “Possessed” by RK Ryals

Cursed and Possessed Double Cover Reveal and Giveaway!

Cursed (The Thorne Trilogy Book I)

by R.K. Ryals

Cover by: Eden Crane Designs

Synopsis:

A grimoire. A witch. A Demon.

Ellie Elizabeth Jacobs, often known as Monroe due to her fascination with

vintage attire and old movies, is an 18 year-old witch and a darned good one!

But there is also something very wrong with her. Demonic energy makes her

powers stronger, she has the ability to ward off Demons, and Lucifer wants her.

Sometimes being bad is better. Or at least that’s how Luther “Thorne”

Craig feels. The hybrid Demon son of the cursed Cain and the Demon Lilith,

Luther is reluctantly sent to New Orleans, Louisiana by his brother, the hybrid

Demon ruler of the Outer Levels of Hell, to protect Monroe from Lucifer’s

searching Hellhounds. But what happens when things go wrong?

In this riveting spin off from R.K. Ryals’ Redemption series, Monroe is faced

with an old grimoire, an ancient curse, and a journey to discover a family

secret that may surprise them all.

Excerpt:

“Can I see that?” NeeCee asked suddenly, and I looked up to find her standing over me, her hand outstretched, her gaze on the grimoire.
I narrowed my eyes.

“Why?”
NeeCee sighed. “I think I know something that may help you.”
I felt myself start to panic and tamped it down. The only thing worse than dust (I’m a slight neat

freak) was Bernice’s gift for inadvertently abusing magic.

“I don’t know— “

“Oh for God’s sake!” NeeCee said irritably before snatching the book out of my hand.

I tried grabbing for it and failed.
“NeeCee …” I warned.
She ignored me, dancing around different glass displays, her eyes on the book. She was naturally clumsy, but inside a store she’d practically been born into, she had the grace of a gazelle. It worked against me.
She paused abruptly, twisting so that her stomach was against a display of dried herbs, her index

finger moving down a page. The display between us was too thick for me to see the

parchment clearly, and I started edging toward her, my heart beating fast.
“NeeCee …” I warned again, my teeth

gritted.
She grinned. “Look! It’s a reversal spell. This

could help, you know. And it’s simple.”
She lifted a candle from a cabinet behind her and lit it. It was black.
Crap!
I blew the wick out.
“No!” I cried. “There is no way in hell

I am letting you perform anything on me. Understand?”
Bernice frowned, her forehead creased. “You really have that little confidence in me?”
I could hear the hurt in her voice, and I felt a pang of sympathy. Truly I did, but I wasn’t about to let it affect my judgment.
“I have plenty of confidence in you, NeeCee, but these are old spells. They are unpredictable. Extremelyunpredictable.”
Bernice lit the candle again and moved it behind her, her finger trailing the page. She turned, facing me.
“Quae mea tua sunt, tua mea sunt quid . . .” she proceeded stubbornly, her chin raised, her eyes large and confident behind her spectacles.
The words were Latin. I recognized them instantly and cringed, jumping onto the display case, my blue dress riding all the way up to my hip. At this point, I didn’t give a flip if a

customer came in right now and got an eye full of my black low-rise panties. I just wanted the dead blasted grimoire.
“NeeCee, no!” I shouted, just as the black candle behind her exploded, ebony wax falling onto the wooden surface around it.
I covered my face, but even though the blast sounded loud inside the store, there was no collateral

damage. The only outwardly disturbing sign was a small, perfect wax circle made of six black spots on the worn wood around the scarlet glass candleholder. I winced. Bernice froze.
“NeeCee,” I whispered.
“Yeah?” she muttered.
I stared at the ruined workstation as the grimoire fell to the floor at Bernice’s feet. “That wasn’t a reversal spell.”
