Lizzy Ford Book Club Review: Severed by Lizzy Ford and Julia Crane

Beautiful woman with curly hairstyle against gray background

Two sisters with special gifts and an unbreakable bond …

Cyena and Tyana were born to powerful parents who are among the ruling class on their planet. Their lives are pampered but isolated, constricted to the city walls in which they were born.

Fun loving with a rare but powerful mind power, Tyana is accustomed to being treated like a princess and using her influence to get anything she wants – including protecting her sister from the elders and students who look down on her. The opposite of Tyana in most ways, Cyena’s second-class mind skills make others view her as a blemish on the family bloodline. No one but her sister believes in her.

They don’t know that a war is brewing, until it erupts. A class war tears their perfect world a part, leaving them helpless, alone and worse –severed from one another.

Each girl will risk her life to find the other, and each will be challenged to hone her powers in order to survive environments unlike any they’ve ever experienced.

I thought this story was very good and it kept my attention. I definitely can’t wait for the next serial in the series. I loved the twist and turns of the story, i definitely can’t wait to see the direction the rest of the series takes.

** spoiler alert ** This was a quick read but kept me intrigued the entire time. It felt a bit rushed but I think that was the point. It was to set up the series and it had lots of action as well as a bit of confusion. I cannot wait to read more. I was not expecting to be as quick as it was but that does not mean I didn’t enjoy it a lot.

It does not even seem like it is written by two authors. Both sisters have a great connection and it’s interesting the lies that were revealed. I am excited to see what happens next, with the sisters being separated. I am also intrigued as to what the future is meant for the skywalker. I also want to see what happens to the sister who is faking who she is so that she isn’t killed.

5 STARS!!!!!

Although it was a pretty short book, I have to say that it truly captured my full attention from beginning to end. I loved all the characters (well except Weldon) he was a complete jerk, but all the others I did love. I look forward to the next book.

Linda Terrutty

Love the pairing of these two authors and was very excited to read this book. I definitely got pulled in from the start, and flew through it…biggest negative? The bloody book ended too soon!!!

I wasn’t expecting the book to have a somewhat dystopian feel, but it did come across that way. Sort of like The Birthmarked Trilogy (although very different too). I liked the sisters who were loyal to each other, but had very different personalities and ambitions. Part of this was based on the fact that they both have different gifts/talents, and in their society, some are more valued than others. In general, the gifts determine what social class and role in society each person will hold. And although they were born into the elite class, they are not treated in the same fashion. I really liked Cyena and her ambitions to be a good person, but also to find something more for herself.

I cannot wait for the next part of the series to see what happens next.

Amazing,I devoured this book not one but twice!!!!!

No spoiler’s as always.

I was given this Arc for an honest review.

Fantastic, brilliantly written not by one but two, Awesomely talented writers, whom I have glued myself to, with no regrets.

This story starts out with funny school like humor, and continues with unexpected strength.

The story of two sisters raised in a family of power, considered Elites, with special abilities that give them their status in their society. A rebellion rising, and the fall of the world they called home, the beginning of a long journey to find each other again.

I can only say that in no way shape or form can you tell that this story was written by two authors, it was just so consistent and the story never fell out of line. I am so looking forward to the next book in this fantastic novella, The only downfall to this book is that I have to wait for book ( #2 Trapped )!!! I can’t wait to see what will become of Cyena and her sister Tyana in the next book!!!!

Amazing Lizzy Ford and Julia Crane!!! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would.

Penny Winnell Brosze

This story is going to be AMAZING!! I love both authors, so my interest was piqued from the start.

These sisters will go to any lengths or planets to get each other back. Welon needs a good smack upside the head, hope he gets his come-upins lol

I’m secretly hoping that Ryker didn’t actually die … we shall see!!

Awesome read .. can’t wait for the rest!!

Tiffany K Halliday, A_TiffyFit’s Reading Corner

I’m not quite sure where I’m coming down on the whole “serial” novel thing. I think in the time of Dickens it would’ve driven me batty waiting for the next installment. I think in the time of Crane & Ford it is going to drive me batty waiting for the next installment! :P

These two sisters share a bond and they’re about to be separated by space and war. Cyena, having been ridiculed for years now on her TWO gifts not manifesting, is suddenly outside the walls with the commoners, reliant upon Kardon, a new “servant” in her father’s household. Kardon, upon discovering her outside the walls in the midst of the rebellion, hides the fact that she’s of the Elite, a favor in return for the favor she did him earlier when she recognized he stuck out like a sore thumb among the serving class in her father’s household.

Her sister is destined to be the next Starwalker and can pretty much get away with anything. Ripped from one another, Cyena is left outside the wall whereas her sister ends up…far far away. ;)

Total kindle bruiser, kept me punching my kindle to see what happens next. And omg…now I have to wait for the next installment in the series! This is worse than cliffhanging novels! :P haha. Loved it.

Patrick Gordon

This was a Great start to a potentially awesome serial book. I like the book a lot and can not wait til the next one comes out.

We first meet the two sisters Cyena and Tyana who were born in the elite class of there society. Tyana is a Starwalker and Cyena is a Reciever and a wall walker. We then find out that there is a civil war about to happen and Tyana and Cyena are seperated and trying hard to get back to each other. The question is though will they be able to find each other again?

Jessica Landram
4 STARS!!!!

Although they are completely different, Cyena & Tyana are best friends as well as sisters. When they go to see what is outside the wall of their home, their life is completely changed. A rebellion will cause the sisters to question everything and forge new relationships.

You can’t tell that this novella was written by 2 amazing women! I’m a huge fan of Julia Crane and Lizzy Ford. The transitions are seamless and the story captivating. This is the first in a new series, so it is short and the ending has you desperately wanting more!

Cherrie Cruz Directo
5 STARS!!!!!

Loved the book! Though it’s short, it sets the story for action. The sisters were presented concisely but very interestingly. It gives the contrast on how the people treated Cyena and Tyana. The conflicts were out, revealing a rebellion and the separation of the sisters. Here comes the action! Can’t wait for the next! :)

Ginelle Blanch
5 STARS!!!!!

The first book in a serial series by Lizzy Ford and Julia Crane. Loved the characters. The world they created is vibrant, it’s a very “visual” book. It’s full of emotion, I found myself smiling and fuming with the characters. The book flows well, if you hadn’t looked at the cover, you’d never have known that two different authors wrote the story. Since it IS a serial series, I was prepared for the cliffhanger ending. I thought the authors chose the ending very well, I was happy with it. Looking forward to finding out more about Cyena and Tyana , the rebellion that’s happening in their world and how they will find their way back to each other!

Amanda strickhouser

I really enjoyed this book. I found the characters to be well developed. I loved that the book gave you both sisters points of view. And just when your in the heat of it.. its over.. way to leave me hanging!!

So in this book we find sisters Cyena and Tyana at the Academy Trying to learn to control their powers. Cyena is looked down upon by everyone while Tyana is revered for hers. The girls find them selfs in the middle of a rebellion. While Tyana is forced to leave her home. Cyena is hidden by a friend (?). Both are worried about the other with no way of knowing the other is ok. There is a love story developing with both of them, we will have to wait and see what happens.

Shaswati Panda

One look at the cover page and you will feel… Wow!!! I gotta read this book. And what a read it is!!! Amazing…

When Lizzy Ford and Julia Crane, two most notable authors came together to write the Starwalker Series, one had to be blown away.

Two sisters, one revolutionary uprising, their journey from being together to being separated by war and to find each other again amidst a war that changes their lives overnight…

When the story starts, you will instantly fall in love with the sisters, Cyena and Tyana… Cyena being looked-down upon for not being able to use for two powers and Tyana being worshipped and adored by everybody for being a Starwalker-in-training. The bond between sisters is great. So are all the characters that stay close to the sisters. The story walks you through their aim to discover more about their society beyond the elite, to discover their powers and to what happens when an uprising caught them unawares. What happened in the uprising to separate these two sisters from each other will leave you on the edge of your seats.

A very promising start to the series!!! You will count days to grab the next book… An absolute delight!!!

Lizzy Ford Book Club Review: Zoey Rogue by Lizzy Ford

Zoey Rogue_fb

 Lizzy Ford Book Club Review:

image ** Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations, language and mature subject matter **

He only needs three nights to make her his …

With more heart than sense, fearless, beautiful Zoey has saved countless college-aged women from horrifying deaths at the hands of supernatural sadists. She may be a mere half-succubus in a society that views half-breeds with derision, but she still retains the highest rescue rate of any Hunter in the Sucubatti society.

As the calm, disciplined leader of the Incubatti Enforcers, Declan is the polar opposite of Zoey – and the sworn enemy of her society. Forced to rescue her one night, Declan realizes two things: he doesn’t need someone as wild and independent as Zoey in his life – and he can’t live without her.

In this world, there’s only one incubus for every sucubatti and Zoey and Declan are stuck with each other. They’re just as likely to kill each other as they are to yield to each other’s sex magic.

She has authority issues and drinks too much. He is the irresistibly sexy incubus pre-ordained to tame her. Neither can fight their intense attraction, and yet trusting each other is out of the question.

What happens when their worlds crash down around them?

Strike three. You’re mine.

Zoey Rouge was an absolute brilliant write. The War of the Gods and Ryn have competition in Declan, and his family, Declan being a hot sexy raw dog brings 50 shades to shame, Buffy has nothing on Zoey the sexy bad ass, head strong spirited fighter. This book is not for YA readers under 17,, Deff for adults,,,loved it, the characters were all put together with great balance, again reading it made me feel as if I was in the story, I love most of all that Zoey needed no real rescuing. I loved that Zoey held her own, of course with her handsome side kick. Overall the book was fantastic, hoping to read more of these wonderful characters in the future. Way to go Lizzy!!!!

Chelsea Ingham :
5 STARS!!!!!

I was hooked to this book from the start. Zoey has such an attitude and I loved every part of her character as well as Team R. Declan and his crew I also love. It is a perfect match for everyone and they all get along with a ton of sarcasm and swearing.

This book had me laughing and feeling for Zoey the whole way. As soon as I started I couldn’t put the book down. Lizzy does it again. I am glad I found Lizzy on Twitter without that I would never have known to read her books. I have not been let down once and this one I believe has become one of my favorites from her.

When I hit the last page without realizing it I immediately went to look for when the next book came out. Read this book. It has action, sex, sarcasm, and crazy meltdowns. Lots going on and figuring out what it truth and what isn’t. I cannot wait to see what is next in store for this little Zoey.

Ginelle Blanch:

First book in a new series for Ms. Ford that’s for ADULTS!!! LOOOOOVED it! Loved the action and the characters. Declan is melt in your mouth gorgeous as are all his brothers AND his father! Zoey is amazing and has such attitude and sass! Love Professor. Ms. Ford has a WONDERFUL talent for story telling and creating worlds that are ABSOLUTELY believable and just suck you right in. This book was sexy and fun! The ending DEFINITELY leaves you frothing at the mouth for book two. Fantastic job, Ms. Ford!!!!

Cherrie Cruz Directo:

I love this book so much! It was action packed yet it was light and funny! Zoey is an amazing heroine. She doesn’t have rules. She acts based on her gut feelings. A real excellent match for the powerful incoming head Enforcer Declan…very tough yet very passionate. I just hope their bond would be strong enough to withstand any obstacle along the way. Can’t wait for Zoey Avenger! :)

Holly Cooper:
5 STARS!!!!!

Omg Lizzy never disappoints this book is so good I could not put it down I was up all night reading it I hope she finishes the second one soon. Zoey is a strong and independent girl and try’s her best to live a normal life but things start to fall apart when her boyfriend ask to marry her she freaks out and walks out the door and when she comes back she finds he knows she has been out in the clubs instead of the library but he doesn’t know who she really is or why she is there. If you want to know more then pick this book up it is amazing.

Amy:
5 STARS!!!!!

Zoey is a stubborn and spunky Hafling trying to lead a normal human life during the day and the life of a hunter at night. This does not work out for her. Zoey loves going out with Vikki and killing Cambions who prey on girls in their early 20′s and collects their sex energy. They are both the best Hunters at the Sucubatti. But everything starts turning upside down for Zoey and she has no clue what to do.

“I don’t want my job to come between us.”

“Your job didn’t come between us. Several hundred men did.”

Declan is a stubborn hot as hell Incubus. One of the strongest. He has avoided Zoey (His Soul-Mate) and the rite to become joined for years but a time comes that he can no longer stay away. Declan decides to start the rite only Zoey doesn’t know it till “Strike one” is over with. Each strike makes them crave each other more. Declan is the only one that can calm Zoey’s sex energy and the sex these two have is so hot it’s crazy.

“Strike three. You’re mine,”

Declan’s brothers were awesome. They had me laughing threw out the book. I couldn’t get enough of Wes.

“If you don’t f**k him, I will. Between the two of you, my day has been hell.”

This book was amazing. Everything was perfectly paced with no slow spots and no spots to fast. The sex scenes were hot. The details perfect and everything was described so you could imagine everything. I loved the professor the most I think. He was a hoot. This is Lizzy’s first book like this and I think she ROCKED it. Definitely recommend this book to everyone.

“Kitten is fitting. Adorable but clawed.”

I haven’t tried any of the recipes and will need to remember to do that next Christmas, but I did like the thought behind including them. The short stories were sweet. Could some of them have been longer and given you more? Absolutely. Which is why I did not rate this 5 stars, but altogether a cute holiday read. My favorite is the secret Santa gift to Darcy from Devlin. Absolutely loved that one. My second favorite is a tie between the S’mores one and the make a wish one with Mason and Jasmine.

Linda’s Review:
4 STARS!!!!

Seriously!?! Maybe this cliffhanger bugged me the most because I don’t have the next book and it isn’t even out yet, but dang it, NO, NO, NO. By the time I got to nearly the end of the book, I kinda guessed where it was going to end, but was hoping I was wrong because, well, I wanted them happy. I wanted them to find a way to make that happen that doesn’t go where it did. But, no.

At the end of book 3 we learn that Devlin is Darcy’s uncle, a bit removed of course ;) . As a result, this one picks up with a lot of ticked off people, and left me a tiny bit uncomfortable. Hey, in book 3 she was noticing how attractive he was, then she learns he is her uncle…who wouldn’t be uncomfortable. But as we learn the “why” behind his not telling her, you just gotta get back to loving Devlin. It takes Mason a little longer to get past the fact that Devlin kept the secret of Darcy being in danger to himself, and a small handful of others, and Darcy is hurt of course, but once we do get past that, it is on to the bigger picture of how to protect her from the next challenge…essentially, someone else wanting to kill her. One relative will do anything to keep her safe while another wants to take her life. It’s a race to find a way to either re-bind her magic or eliminate Julian. A part of me feels like the fight with Julian was a bit anti-climactic, but the result was definitely a doozy. Talk about winning, just to lose. And talk about secrets…I STILL am dying for more about Devlin. Just when you think you learned quite a bit about his history at the start of this book, you get a hint of more that is hidden at the end of the book.

I can definitely say that I am now eagerly awaiting the next book to learn what happens to Darcy and Mason, as well as learn more about Devlin and Zane. I guess things have been too perfect between the super couple, and now things have to get really hairy between them. Yes, they have had challenges, but never to them personally. This will change that and that is one thing I definitely was hoping to avoid because that was one of the greatest things about this series. The fact that they were established and strong together.

Looking forward to the next book topping it, but can we finally give Darcy and Mason their happily ever after?

Jessica Bolduc:

This was a good second book. It is nice to see how Mia is changing, growing and becoming stronger. There were a few times in the book where I teared up thinking about what she is going through. This is a very emotional story and I applaud the author for writing about the subject. I like that she is finally getting close to her brother, sister, and uncle. She has more of a support system than she thought. I can’t wait to see what happens between Mia and Dom.

Cherrie Cruz Directo:

Broken World picks up where Broken Beauty ended. The conflict was knowing she was pregnant after being raped. The previous conflicts were still there…who to trust…the fear of going public…being abandoned by parents…keeping the family’s political image…now, whether to keep the baby or not. Lizzy handled the sensitive topic well. She showed how conflicted Mia’s life was and she puts characters in the person of Ari, Dom, Chris, Gianna and even the doctor to enlighten her and show her the consequences of her decisions. Mia then realizes that there are people who are truly concerned and truly cares for her. It was nice to see Mia finally seeing the light and the story becomes more interesting now that she made the first move to fight back! Can’t wait for the new Mia to come! The strong willed young girl who will put Robert Connor to jail!! :)

Patrick Gordon:

This book continues to follow the life of Mia as she continues to come come to terms with being raped. We learn that most of the people in her family would rather she keeps her mouth shut about who raped her. We also learn that she is pregnant. As she struggles to decide to if she should turn in the 2 rapists now she must decide if she should keep the baby as well.

I continue to feel for Mia I cant believe the amount of courage she continues to show. I liked the fact that she has found people that she can turn to when she needs assistance. I also liked the fact that she is able to make choices for herself despite what her father may say or think.

I will be waiting to see what happens next

Shauna Sue:
5 STARS!!!!!

This book showed the struggles of a young girl who wanted to do what was right, when she wasn’t sure who was supporting her in her decision to do so. By making the right decision it could cost her everything she has ever known, but she could gain friendships and trust of people that she never would have known either.

Ginelle Blanch:
5 STARS!!!!!

I really loved this novella. The pain of the recovery process is very potent. But, Mia seems strong. Although she doesn’t have many people to stand beside/behind her, the ones she does have are wonderfully supportive. I have a feeling about Chris, Mia’s uncle. Love Ari, Dom, and Gianna. Mia has a long road ahead of her. Can’t wait to see where Ms. Ford takes her!

Michelle Dodd:
5 STARS!!!!!

I hoped for Mia to have some peace in this book, but her story is so real and raw. Broken World was so touching and emotional because you go from Mia’s trauma to her trying to cope. I love the way the story displays how there is no “just bouncing back” from being sexually assaulted. Mia showed us how those demons come for you every day and how sometimes they best you. I was so in the moment with Broken World and hurt with Mia because she was surrounded by people but so alone and I understood her feelings. I found myself wishing I could give her some of my courage and strength or even just to be there for her. Thank you Lizzy for putting a great character’s voice on a strong subject and making it so that other peoples story may be heard through Mia’s.

Linda Terrutty:
4 STARS!!!!

We pick up where Broken Beauty ends….Mia is pregnant and her father announces to the media that she intends to keep the baby, without any consideration for what Mia wants. Although her body has finally mended, she’s still broken. The only time she wants to leave the house is when she needs to attend her community service or school. The police still want her to come forward. The mother who loves her and keeps promising to return home, never does. She is confused, but one thing she does know is doesn’t want a daily reminder of what was done to her.

In this book, Mia will learn that being a part of her family isn’t as black and white as she has always thought. She’ll also learn the identity of her second assailant, Madison, and that there is another rape victim after her. And she’ll finally make some tough decisions that involve her taking some control over her life. Things aren’t getting any easier, and they may never, but she has a few more people in her corner than she originally thought.

Of course, my one pet peeve is that the book ended when it did. I for one am so ready to see Mia fight back and everything that will involve.

Jessica Landram:
5 STARS!!!!

In book 1 (Broken Beauty) we met Mia, experienced the trauma of her assault, rape and positive pregnancy test. In Broken World, more family members come out of the cracks in Mia’s life. Regardless of how helpful and nice they appear, everyone has hidden motives and secrets. It’s time for Mia to start making important decisions that will affect the rest of her life. Will she publicly announce who attacked and raped her? Will she raise this baby, give it up for adoption or terminate the pregnancy? There are so many things this book answered.

This book picks up where the first one left off. Lizzy Ford does a great job opening up discussions, ramifications and the emotional journey many women (and men!) of all ages go through. Although there may not be any visible scars, the damage is just as lasting. Mia’s story is well written, heartfelt and compassionate. Lizzy doesn’t shy away from controversial twists and turns, making this a brutally honest book.

Marilyn Ortega:
5 STARS!!!!!

OMG, this book is so good!!!! Following the hardships and decision’s that Mia has to make, I’m still hating her father for using her to gain political goal’s, her brother that does the same thing as well, what I like the most was how her sister reached out to her, it was needed.

There is another rape and Mia finds herself conflicted with feeling’s of regret for not coming forward with whom was responsible for her rape, and can also be responsible for the eight victim.

This book flows right from where book one ended, it is great, I recommend book one ( Broken Beauty in the series ) and follow Mia’s story to see how it all unfolds.

Will she betray her father,? Or will she keep her secret. Will she get her abortion? Will there be another victim?

Get this awesome Novella by Lizzy Ford an incredible author, and a conflicting read, and follow with us on Mia’s journey.

Review: Testing Fate (Mystic Wolves #3) by Belinda Boring

17131825Nothing burns as bright as the flames of the refiner’s fire.

Moments after hearing the Council sentence her enemy to life imprisonment for attempted murder and illegal use of magic, Darcy is whisked away by the Fates—accused of tampering with destiny. The cherished dream she shared with Mason has been called into question, placing doubt about whether they are actually true mates. To resolve it, a price must be paid—the Heart or Death—a grueling series of tests designed to reveal a person’s worth.

The stakes are high and Darcy finds herself facing the unknown in conditions that leave her more vulnerable than she’s ever been. Separated from Mason and her Pack, with Devlin as her only companion, she is pushed to her very limits. She must succeed—or lose everything.

Will she crumble under the pressure or emerge stronger for testing fate?

4 STARS!!!!

So is it love and fate, or isn’t it? Amber’s accusation at the end of book 2, that Darcy used magic to steal Mason from her has led to more complications and puts at risk their plan to mate. Nathan’s betrayal may just be the loophole that gets Amber off, and calls into question the legitimacy of Darcy and Mason’s soul mate bond.

To help decide whether or not Darcy and Mason truly are soul mates, the Fates decide to put them through a series of tests. The tests may vary. From gauging their integrity to their dedication to their physical and emotional strengths. If pushed to the limits, will they give up or forge on. If given the choice to choose a path, will they choose the correct one. The one thing I did like about the tests was that it gave more insight into the characters’ pasts. The one thing I did not like is that we did not get much about Mason’s point of view. It was all Darcy. Perhaps that was intentional because she was the one who was accused of tampering with fate, although they both had the dream. I would have at least liked to have known if his tasks were similar and the only difference was the choice he spoke of in the book.

Moving on…just when Darcy and Mason think they have succeeded and they can move forward with their mating ceremony, Amber strikes again. Wow, talk about stalking….so is it love? Hmm. Things finally come to a head and luckily, our favorite couple gets past their latest challenge and we get the answer to the following questions:

1) will they ever mate AND

2) is Amber finally out of the picture AND

3) what the heck was Nathan’s involvement

Then the bloody cliffhanger! But wait, at least with this one…I gotta say that my first reaction was “YES! Finally!” I now know what the deal is with Devlin and Darcy. And my second reaction was “aww hell, where the heck is the next book!?!”

Review: Forget Me Not (Mystic Wolves #2) by Belinda Boring

13127675Only a fool would think they could steal from a werewolf …

Anticipating a quiet night alone with the man she loves, Darcy’s world is sent into a spin with the arrival of someone from the past—Mason’s. She is further shocked by the intruder’s claim she may not even be the true mate of the Mystic Wolves Alpha. Accusations start to fly, leading to her new enemy being granted asylum, and this is just the beginning of trouble.

Relying on the reassurances of Mason and the support of her friends and Pack, Darcy soon falls under attack. Suspicions are raised, and with no other choice, she must flee with Devlin to safety where hopefully they can untangle the lies hidden behind the use of magic. Time is quickly ticking away, leading to a showdown where everything is on the line.

They need to uncover the truth before it’s too late, or once again, Darcy will need to fight to hold onto her dreams.

Linda’s Review:
4 STARS!!!!

We pick up where we left off in book 1 with Amber’s appearance at the house and her declaration that she is Mason’s true mate. That was very ballsy of her to just walk right up to a man and just ignore / disregard the woman he was standing with. Interestingly enough though, I wanted to hit him over the head for not stopping her before she touched him. It was actually a bit contradictory from his behavior throughout the remainder of the book. The Mason I have come to know and love, the strong Alpha who is head over heels in love with Darcy would never have let another woman whom he despised touch him for even a second. Being shocked she was there is one thing, but not enough to unman him. I have not seen that response in him yet, and this scenario was definitely not the spot I would have expected to see him react that way. However, he redeems himself as we progress through the book.

Amber…wow, talk about someone who I honestly thought they were misjudging at times. Darcy, Daniel, and Mason were pretty adamant that she was there to cause trouble, but you just didn’t get that feel for most of the book. Yes, she showed up claiming to be the mate of Mason, but her behavior for most of the book was not bad. She talked to others, she tried to talk to Mason, she tried to get close to Darcy, but she didn’t do anything that would indicate she was doing anything to harm anyone. When Darcy gets sick, it is sudden and quick to incapacitate her. From this point on, Devlin, Daniel, Mason, and Darcy are searching for what caused her to get sick and who was behind it. Did I mention that I love Daniel and Devlin too? The men are definitely my favorite characters, and very swoon worthy.

Then wham, once they do determine what caused Darcy to get sick, who was behind it, and what else was coming, you start to see the side of Amber she hid so well. Some would say the author did a bad job at portraying Amber as the “bad guy”. Others would say it was kind of clever, and gave Amber a chance to indict Darcy there at the end. For my part, I didn’t find it obvious which is why I enjoyed this story…aside from the hot men of course. What I can say I was a bit worried about was Darcy and Devlin. The scene in his study where she becomes aware of how attractive he is and Vlad’s comments about Devlin’s feelings for her, and her subsequent thoughts on that upset me a little. One of the main things I loved about this series is that Darcy and Mason were already a done deal…that nothing could come between them, so seeing her reaction, even for second did not sit well with me. It was the same reaction I had to the opening scene with Amber and Mason. Aside from that and the cliffhanger at the end, I thought this was a great follow up to book one. Yet another challenge faced and nearly won. Unlike book 1 where Avery bit the dust, Amber just won’t make it easy to get rid of her. On to book 3!

4 STARS!!!!

I didn’t know this book was originally 3 separate novellas. And I don’t agree with another reviewer who stated it was choppy. I think the flow is actually pretty good so if it was 3 separate books before, the author did a good job merging them.

I love these characters and it has been a long while since I’ve read a book where the main characters are already a couple, and completely dedicated to each other. However, things are not quite perfect. Darcy is not only strong minded, but she is also sensible, sensitive, and loyal. Being the future mate of the wolf Alpha would pretty much demand these qualities and more. Mason is the Alpha she is to be mated with. He’s smart, protective, sexy, and commands the respect of his pack. Then we have Daniel, the awesome second in command, and Devlin, the vampire enforcer and good friend of Darcy and Mason. The book starts out with the pack enjoying a game of football at a barbeque. Realizing they forgot something, the girls head out to the store to pick it up when they run into trouble. Things don’t go quite so well, and the next thing we know there is a bit of mystery. A couple of deaths, a funeral, a kidnapping, mind-control, and finally defeat of the bad guy. Romance, heart-break and sadness, denial, guilt, and a few other emotional moments throughout. Basically the start of several challenges that Darcy and Mason’s will face before their mating ceremony. I did enjoy the steamy scenes between Darcy and Mason, and liked the fact that no matter what was thrown at them, they stuck together. And although steamy, it wasn’t inappropriate for teenagers.

I will admit that some of the interactions between the characters did leave me chomping at the bit for the history and background, especially Devlin. I’m still not sure what the deal is with him and why Darcy and he are so close. The book starts with showing you how familiar and comfortable everyone is with each other, and slowly gives you the background on how they met and some of their history as the characters look back through their memories.

The series reminds me somewhat of the Mercy Thompson series, and that is a great series. One of my favorite shifter series. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books and seeing what other challenges Mason, Darcy, Daniel, Devlin, and pack will face.

Chelsea Ingham:
5 STARS!!!!!

I was not sure where this author was going with this series. It is one of those books that deals with a real life situation that is hard to handle with. I have no experience with dealing with human trafficking but this author has really understood what goes on in the human mind when faced with being raped and being told over and over that it is your fault. I was a little distant at first but I could not put the book down. I had to know what happened and how this story played out. I loved the way kaitlyn delt with the victim. She treated her like she was fragile but also strong at the same time. I look forward to reading more from this author and see what is next for Kaitlyn.

Cherrie Cruz Directo:

The book is a bit sensitive because it deals with human trafficking. It pains me as I read it. Sometimes I can’t get myself to read every word because the details were so vivid that I could actually feel the physical pain, anger and hatred of Aaliyah, the victim. The author really showed the contrast of being a victim and being saved…being around evil people and being with good ones. I couldn’t stop crying throughout the whole book. It was a nice sequel for Kaitlyn and Lucas but this book mainly touched me because of Aaliyah and Noah. Despite the evil around the world, this book proves that even with the slightest goodness in even just one of us, there is hope. I’m truly honored to have read this book.

Barbara Gordon:
5 STARS!!!!!

In Fractured Innocence, the sequal to Freak of Nature, we see the story jump between Kate & Erik (and of course Lucas and some new characters) and Aaliyah, a victim of a horrible crime. Aaliyah’s story broke my heart. She was a happy-go-lucky typical teenager until the day she & her little brother get abducted based on her rare look (she is dark skinned with blue eyes) and are brought to a horrible man named Vance who is a child trafficer. Aaliyah suffers in unmentionable ways, and we wonder throughout the whole book if she will survive and be saved in time. We finally see Kate & Erik go on their first mission, accompanied by a jerkwad of a friend from Erik’s past, Ace. Ace is gruff and abrasive and jealous and a total douche. But he does redeem himself in my eyes, and makes for some good giggles along the way.

This book was a great read and brought attention to a HUGE problem that is still rampant in the world today. My wish is that somehow, someway, someday, these people can be stopped.

Patrick Gordon:

The book fractured innocence continues where the first book left off in the hunt for Vance. In this book we see just how much evil this man can really do to a poor innocent girl named Aaliyah. My heart breaks for her and what she suffers in the book. I was also amazed by the courage and strength she has found by the end of the book. In this book we also see Kaitlyn and Lucas continue there relationship. We also meet several new characters Ace and Nick. I think this book overall was a very good book and I look forward to when the next one comes out.

Jess Landram:
5 STARS!!!!!

Fractured Innocence is so emotional! I think at various times I wanted to laugh, cry, kill someone, hug someone, and protect someone. Julia Crane dealt with human trafficking in a very honest, stark way. I really appreciated how she addressed the sexual and mental abuse. It wasn’t turned into anything pleasurable, just gut wrenching angst.

Aaliyah and her brother are kidnapped after school one day. Immediately they are separated and Aaliyah becomes the newest obsession for Vance. Kaitlyn, Lucas and the team are her only hope of survival, although Aaliyah would rather be dead. Kaitlyn is learning about her new emotions as well as her anger regarding the missing children.

I think my favorite quote from the whole book is regarding Noah talking to Aaliyah ” You said you couldn’t fix shards of glass. I wanted to show you that with enough time and patience a beautiful image will emerge. Different, but no less beautiful. ”

Linda Terrutty:
4.5 STARS!!!!

I have to agree with everyone else…book 1 was good because it introduced us to Kaitlyn, Lucas, and Harrington. Their history, especially her evolution and the trust they built together, but there wasn’t a whole lot of excitement…at least no where near this book. This book took us to that next stage where Kaitlyn and Erik are actually going on their first mission together, and it’s a doozy. I really liked how well the author told this story. Although the subject is one we hope to never encounter, it wasn’t detailed enough to have you wary of reading the whole book, but still portrayed what Aaliyah was facing and how daunting a task it was to survive it.

If I have one complaint, it was how fast Dasvoik was killed after they eventually caught up to him. I would have liked to have seen him beaten, drugged, whipped, cut, and anything else fitting his crimes against the women and children he stole and sold. Yep, I can definitely be a little blood thirsty when it comes to people mistreating or abusing the innocent.

I would definitely recommend this book to others and surprisingly, I don’t believe you absolutely have to read book 1 first.

Ginelle Blanch:
5 STARS!!!!!

This book had a subject matter that was hard to read at times and very graphic. It dealt with human trafficking. But, Ms. Crane did a fantastic job with it. While we know it happens, it’s not talked about much. This is a detailed look into what happened to a girl named Aaliyah when she and her brother were kidnapped. Enjoyed reading more about how Kaitlyn had grown a bit more into herself and her role in helping to recover Aaliyah and the other prisoners. It was great to read more about Lucas and Erik, Harrington, Adams and Dr. Chambers. They all work very well as a team. I was really happy with how the book ended and I’m eager to see where Ms. Crane takes Kaitlyn next.

Tiffany K Halliday:
4 STARS!!!!

Picking up nearly where we left off the first time, we are back with Harrington, Lucas, Kaitlyn, and Erik and headed towards their next mission. Vance Dasovik — the target, not a threat. There IS a difference.

Aaliyah is walking her little brother, Darrius, home when both are abducted off the streets of Detroit. Soon, Aaliyah is thrust into the bowels of hell, her innocence taken from her, and subjected to a sick bastard’s base desires and torture. Her only concern is to survive so as to save Darrius, her little brother.

Kaitlyn, Luke, and party are preparing to attack Vance Dasovik and bring him down. There is no “bring to justice”; this man is a blight on the face of humanity, sexually torturing and raping young girls and engaging in human trafficking.

While Kate and Lucas are dealing with making her blend in more, and then dealing with fits of jealousy and expressing their love for one another physically, Aaliyah is being raped, tortured, beaten, and mentally broken.

This was NOT an easy read. It was quite difficult to get through the horrors that Aaliyah was facing, which thankfully were never explicit. Perhaps that made it worse? My imagination took off and my heart hurt for this poor innocent.

There were a few grammatical errors, mostly misuse of apostrophes when a plural was wanted. Not huge, but often enough to be noticeable. Still…this was a kindle-bruiser for me as I could not walk away, I could not put it down, I HAD to know if Aaliyah and the others were saved or not!

The ending was satisfying and yet not nearly as satisfying enough for I was harboring very vicious feelings towards Dasovik that I wanted to see play out. I am looking forward to the next in this series as I want to see this crew grow together and form fast, lasting friendships!
