On the art of editing --a very brief fly-by interview with me on IO9
This was done while I was in Montreal and very much on they fly. Luckily, Annalee gave me a chance to look over her transcript when I got home so it's not totally incoherent, but there are still some sections strung together that do come across...strangely. Trying to talk about sf/f/and horror in the same 20 minute interview is tough. (so yeah. I'm making excuses!)

Read this and weep --or scream. Your choice.
Although this was originally posted at the end of July, it was only brought to my attention today (through someone's blog links): More Diversity and More Perversity in the Future!

KGB Bookseller needed
This is cribbed from Matt Kressel's blog:
As those who attend Fantastic Fiction know, Mobile Libris, an independent bookseller, sells the readers' books at every event. (They are the quiet folks on the stools by the back of the bar). Because of financial reasons, they can no longer afford to send an employee to KGB Fantastic Fiction. So we are looking for a volunteer to sell books for them. In their words:
"If you'd like to continue having books sold at your series, the procedure will be the same

Home again home again jiggity jig
A grueling day in the Montreal airport --to sum it up: flight delayed then cancelled, dozens of passengers on the flight needing service in order to catch connecting flights and almost no information about what was going on in the first two hours. Ended up that I and the rest of the passengers from the 1:40 flight were put on the 4:12 flight which only left about half an hour late, so in all I got home about three hours later than planned.
But the convention, while far from perfect (many have al

I WON!
Yes, I did and I'm thrilled.
For the usual reason that I love to win awards.
But also, because it's a beautiful one, the base made of rock (granite, I think--also very heavy). In addition, it's the first I've won since 2005(when SCIFICTION closed down)and the first I've won in the new category of short fiction editor. Which means it's for my anthology work rather than as a magazine editor.
Thank you to all my fellow nominees who help keep short fiction alive and to all the voters.

A Visit to the High Line
This is the newest park in NYC: in my neighborhood. It runs from Jane Street to 23rd and will eventually reach 34th street. It's along an abandoned railroad track right near the Hudson River. There are wildflowers, benches, even some wooden lounges for sunbathers, a gelato and drink vendor. Beautiful overall, and with great views.

Packing for Worldcon
and still dripping from the humidity, despite the fact my air-conditioner is on.
Freaking out a bit because I've too much to do before leaving tomorrow. I've got a very busy schedule (Friday may be the worst)so don't know how often I'll be posting, if at all.
Back Tuesday night.

Troll's Eye View a "Critics Pick" at Salon.com
I think this is the first time any anthology of mine has been mentioned on salon.com, so I'm especially pleased Critics Pick

Regarding my search for cat stories
I'd particularly like to find something about the great cats: lions, tigers, etc...something dark...I've got this strong feeling there have to be some great, recent (written within the past 30 years) horror stories taking place in Africa that I've missed--anyone know of any?
