Photos from Troll's Eye View reading/signing at Books of Wonder
The event was a success and a lot of fun. We weren't sure if the contributors would be reading because of how the announcement from BOW was worded but everyone--Delia Sherman, Ellen Kushner, and Holly Black-- read (I read the brief intro and introduced the readers) for a few minutes. Then Ellen, Delia, and Holly talked about their stories and how they came to write them--other than being commissioned ;-)and then we answered questions and finally signed books.
Here are photos. I took most of them

The detectives
Synchronicity strikes again. The three DVDs I have at home from netflix are two discs of The Singing Detective and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." Double synchronicity I just realized. It's the UK mini-series of The Singing Detective. Robert Downey, Jr was in the the US version (which I've never seen). Downey also stars in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Totally unplanned.
Ok. So within minutes of watching the first hour or TSD I realized I'd already seen the series--where and when I've not a clue. But it's great so

Summary of horror 2008 and everything else is handed in!!!
I've just finished up my summary of the year in horror for 2008 and gone over all the Honorable Mentions and sent off both files to Night Shade. I am finished!!!
It's possible that I've forgotten or missplaced items (in fact I know I have) that will show up...at some point in my life (maybe I should look under the couch). But now I can start reading for 2009 and finish up several other projects.

How the web is changing certain social exchanges
I've just come across this phenomena lately, and it's obviously a result of social networking on the web.
It used to be that when a person was coming to town, she'd reach out and personally contact the people she wanted to see while here. That way we can make plans to see one another either one-on- one or in a small group. When I'm preparing for a trip, that's part of my preparation-- I reach out to the various people I want to see and email or phone them. Or, I have one well-connected, well-org

Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism.
I wasn't sure I wanted to post about the assassination because I didn't know how to approach it, but Shannyn Moore says it best and calls it what it is, Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism
