He brings the same ethos to the treatment of his protagonists; the horrors he inflicts on poor, doddering old Donald Miller near the end of his life-badly-lived nearly amount to elder abuse. Remind me never to become a protagonist in a Laird Barron novel. I’ll stick to reading them, fast as he can write them.”
