Aurora Ballet, Canadian Reads, and Spring Break
Spring Break stopped being a deal with me for a while on account that once I graduated high school I didn’t get it off. It’s my birthday tomorrow, and let’s just say when you have a ton of exams looming for the University, you kind of hate having a birthday at this time of the year.
However – now that my sister’s kids are old enough to do stuff (independently, even) we’ve made it a habit to go to the Royal Winter Brandon Fair if everyone’s healthy. This is only good for the people in Southern...

Peak of the (Book) Market [Local? Edition]: Aurora Awards
It’s that time again! Publishing is a very tough industry to crack, and it’s also hard to stand out from the crowd. I know it doesn’t seem like much, but take a minute, some of the links here lead to short stories you can read online and decide for yourself (and please – don’t limit yourselves to the people I have here – the ones below are for a Manitoba focus. Don’t vote to be nice, vote because you really like the work and think others might like it too).
They’re due in I think over a week,...

Just a Quick Update on Canadian Reading and What I’m Reading and Why
If you at all follow what I’m reading – you might notice more books on mental health in the next little while. I don’t want anyone to worry about me; I’m trying to better understand mental health issues and be more empathetic. If you follow me on FB, I do post things on First Responders, Mental Health, PTSD, and related issues. I want to let people know that if you confide in me, I will do my best to keep that confidence. I think the term “mental health” is a loaded idea– and that even though...
Thoughts on Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Addenum: Yeah, I accidently posted this on pages, not the main feed. It’s been like this for a month.I have been really busy with work (as per the norm, evidently). I have since seen the movie a second time. Not gonna change it – I originally saw the movie end of December 2015; saw it again although I wanted to go see something else.
Yeah yeah, late to the party. In short: I thought it was fun. I thought it also had its problems, but I’m not about to go into the faulty science. Star Wars is...

2016 First Reading Challenge
So I finally had some time off this month – not as much off as I wanted, and I was busy, but to be fair it was like my Christmas Holidays, going and visiting friends and family. I picked up some more paper and ebooks (kobo is having a 50% sale on a bunch of titles until midnight! Code Jan1650 – so far almost every title I tried it worked!). Back to either a busy day or, more likely, a quiet one, depending on what the transfer workload is in the morning. If you’re in the Winnipeg area and goin...

A Week After New Years, we get to the 2015 Roundup
Work’s been BUSY. I’ll talk about the New Star Wars in another post. But First, the Reading Challenge:
A Trilogy – Eh, take your pick between the Metawars 4 pack or the Maze Runner 4 pack. I know: not a trilogy. I didn’t finish book 4 of metawars prior to 2016 though. Both were YA adventure series, I think aimed at boys. I could go on and on about Cliffhangers and how I’m not impressed, but the big thing that irked me was how much blatant hero worship for the MC there were in both series.
A...

Another Nano Failure… Sorta
So here we are and Ciage (me) is barely over the halfway mark.
If I wasn’t able to produce 50k in a month regularly, I might be worried. I very seldom do, but rather than those people with their set schedules for writing, I’ve always had to flex and adapt. So besides the main project (see below) I got work done on that kiddie sequel as well as a bit more on that fantasy I’ve been doing hard copy (basically writing it in an old journal for ten mintues here and there randomly). So nothing done,...

Write Here, Write Now (Oh. The. Puns)
So for the record – cheater over here for her nano, has officially worked towards two projects, both of which I started prior to November. Keeping track of word count is a bit of a trick, but it’s not a big deal so long as I ignore the urge to go back and start editing – then I don’t know the exact word count. New projects – well, if I decide I want to go out and take a paragraph out – I know it’s all new.
So one’s a novella, and the other is a sequel to a kids’ book. It’s mostly been the no...

Nanowrimo, Self Pubbing, C4 Comic Con, and Where I’m at
So it’s been a crazy few weeks – let’s just say that life marches on with EMS, and I’ve been happily getting all the OT I want since about, oh, Mid May. A little burnt out, but since my goals have been predominantly getting my finances in order to get that down payment, I can deal with a little bit of that.
I mentioned last year that I was going to self-publish, then chickened out. I still have the cover – my sister is still reading it and giving me feedback. I’m tempted to move ahead with a...

Reading Update
This is getting trickier and trickier as we go along, mostly because I got loaned a bunch of books I need to return, plus I was kind of sick last month (as in, still not 100% but this is best I’ve felt since before the end of August). I’ve read more than what’s on the list, but figured I should at least update this and keep it kind of legit. I know it’s screwed up but I don’t care enough to go back and figure out who and what. I have more books sitting on my shelf that will finish my year off...
