Clean Reader: Hold onto your Panties (or bloomers)
So someone on my facebook posted a link to an outraged author, who doesn’t want to be censored. In a nutshell, fragile folks who get upset with cuss words like books, but could do without them. Kind of like when my dad squints at Netflix and turns stuff off because it’s basically deviating into a soft-core porno (which my mom would probably enjoy…) Hence, the birth of the App Clean Reader – where we change words like ‘bitch’ to ‘witch’ and so on and so forth. Apparently, this act of not being...

What I’ve been Reading Lately
If you’re ever wondering why I read one book over another, I tend to read whatever people give me, even though I get all hipster and begrudgingly read what’s popular unless it’s by a local author, but I will eventually give in. I put stuff down to read something more pressing, and I come back to it, but I think it makes me look like I’m binging on a genre for a while, but if someone gives me a book I like to return it to them in a timely manner. So enjoy while I cross-out the easy ones on thi...

My Solution to Writing Burnout (Cartoons!)
Manitoba March can be tricky – sure, it’s nice now – the snow is almost melted – I’ll post the ‘got ya!’ blizzard that’s due some time around spring break. So I’ve been enjoying walking along Crescent Lake in PlaP and generally being outside with the dog, who is now 100% cone free.
Anyway – I know I was complaining about being burnt out before – let’s just say that I’ve been doing a lot of sketching lately, and that it seems to take the edge off writing. I actually want to work, and I finishe...

Eating Crow / And Who an Author Is and Isn’t
So I actually figured this out the day following my last post, but I have been kind of busy with work/RL to post. This is in regards to what I mentioned about King Aelle, so please, skip this paragraph if you don’t want spoilers. Ragnar Lothbrok, in accordance with the Poetic Edda, dies by Snake Pit. Aelle throws him in. Well played, tv show. I still think it was over the top and now I’m curious how one maintains it, but eeeeh.
In my defence, when I did research and wrote the rough draft for T...

Reading Challenge Update / Character Assassination in Fiction (And not the cool kind with dark clothing, sorry)
First, Reading List Update:
Book with Non-Human Characters: Bone, Ash, Fog and Star by Catherine Egan
A Book that Came Out this Year: The Ehrich Weisz Chronicles: Infinity Coil by Marty Chan
A Book with Bad Reviews: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Claire
A Book that Became a Movie: The Maze Runner by James
Technically any book out there should have some bad reviews. Taste, really – and I was aware of Cassandra Clare’s work previously, and for the most part, I’m counting it as Bad Reviews because I ha...

Reading Order will be switched Slightly
As I said in my last post of 2014, I’m going to be continuing on with the Afro-futurism challenge. However – literally yesterday I got loaned seven books. The people who loaned them to me are probably in no hurry to get them back – none of them are particularly thick, lots of YA – but I kind of feel obligated to at least start on some of them so I’ll probably finish Zoo City next week when I don’t feel so rushed. I did start Anna Karenina and Zoo City – but they’re mine and I’ll be getting ba...

Mental Health Break Update
So I mentioned in the last post that I was going to be off for a few days early January – long story short is that they shut down the high way on my first day off and I kept going in because, quite frankly, I knew it was a shot week and I’m a believer for when my family finally needs an ambulance, I want them to be fully stocked. I’m a 0.5, so I’m one of the first who gets called for sick and whatever, so it’s easy to pick up to full time.
I have been off for a week though – I didn’t mind bef...

Merry Christmas and a Happy 2015!
For starters: I wish you and yours the very best of the season no matter what you celebrate – a belated Merry Christmas, and also a fantastic new year.
I’ve been real busy (excuses excuses) so mind me while I go on tangents about everything – Nanowrimo, the books I’ve read in 2014, how my writing is coming along, and whatever pops into my head.
For starters, here’s that sketch I mentioned in the C4 post – you can check out the artist’s webpage http://akitron.tumblr.com/.
Basically, I told the ar...

Winnipeg’s ComicCon, NaNoWriMo, and all the rest
Another C4 Comic Con has come and gone – and our table was in the artist’s alley on the second floor rather then the big main room on the third floor. Some people didn’t like it as much, but I like it better. Last year I felt like we were lost in the crowd – the upper floor was all the big dealers and stars and whatnot. You can buy a lot of that stuff elsewhere, you don’t get to see the artists creating.
In general, I was pretty tired because I was at Interact 2014 the weekend prior (MB’s Par...

Guess I should give my opinion on the Whole Stalker Thing
So the internet exploded a few weeks ago. Then it got worse.
I’ve heard a lot of people talk about it from both sides – from outrage to defending stalking, and some actions people are taking. I totally support the idea of doing a media blackout - as far as I’m concerned, no one has the right to demand only positive reviews. It’s not authentic, and I find as a writer (specifically, now that I have something out there and I’m not theoretically wangsting) the hardest part for me isn’t that everyo...
