Autumn Blog Hop/ ABC’s of Reading

FALLFESTIVAL

I just participated, so if you’re feeling sad that summer’s over, or you happen to love the autumn season, go and check it out. I used the term Autumn, even though it’s definitely Fall around here – technically, the snow can start to fly any time in October, though lately we’ve been getting it late November, which is awesome on account of Halloween costumes.

Okay – with the exception of A, I will not mention Burroughs, Lewis, Butler, or Orwell. GO!

Daily Book Challenge: Day 30

Day 30 – Your favorite book of all time

TWHF

I’ve talked about this book and this author a lot already – as said with The Screwtape letters, this is the sort of book that makes me work, but unlike Screwtape, there’s a lot of reading between the lines.

Our story is about Orual, an ugly-queen who lodges her complaint against the gods, which in her time would have been hubris. Orual is the sister of the mythological Psyche, who was famed for her beauty and compared to Aphrodite. Aphrodite would have no...

Daily Book Challenge: Day 29

So I’m behind again – cannot finish on time, as that would be yesterday, but I’ll make the next post go in a few hours, so I’m not coming up with an excuse. I had a tension headache two nights ago – yesterday, I was rewatching Les Miserables last night on call while I was sketching, so no real excuse other than I just didn’t feel like it.

Day 29 – A book everyone hated but you liked

I don’t normally follow reading trends, I’m more likely to read small-press books and I honestly don’t care what...

Daily Book Meme: Day 28

Day 28 – Favorite title

200px-Reaper's_Gale

Picked because it’s also my favorite cover of the series.

I suck with coming up with my own titles. I’ve had finished books sitting there for a while before I came up with a title – come to think of it, I’d already written ¾ of Tower of Obsidian before I came up with a title beyond, “Historical Fantasy – Untitled”, which, by the way, I wrote the latter-half of the novel mostly first (I wanted to swap with Ron, so I had to go back and write the beginning because we swap s...

Daily Book Challenge: Day 27

Day 27 – The most surprising plot twist or ending

200px-AStormOfSwords

Spoilers! This is Post Red-Wedding. Here’s some pictures I took today while walking my dog at the Assiniboine Park; you can’t yell at me if you don’t look below. Don’t keep reading post pictures if you’re waiting for next season or still reading the book:

Garden06 Garden01 Garden02 Garden03 Garden04 Garden05

Joffrey’s Death, and all the aftermath that followed Tyrion afterwords, up to “Shitting Gold.” Let’s just say that those of us who have read it, are going to be cackling at the tv-show onl...

Daily Book Challenge: Day 26

Day 26 – A book that changed your opinion about something

SSF

I’m not 100% sure it was just this book that changed my mind. I think a big part of it is my job, and what I see happening to people’s bodies, in particular if I know they’re not making the healthiest choices. And, that being said, I believe in personal accountability – it’s my fault if I cram nothing but cake and ice cream down my gullet, no one else’s.

That being said, I have been watching lots of shows on nutrition and this book made...

Daily Book Challenge: Day 25

Day 25 – A character who you can relate to the most

I find I can empathize with most characters when I’m reading them. There are definitely characters I don’t relate to very well, but in terms of “Oh, we’re so alike!” I’m probably a strange hybrid between cartoon characters – like Diara and Donald Duck or something. Literary characters are too sophisticated for my ilk.

Hey, we’re coming down to the end of this challenge! I have a few more things, then I’m going to actually have to think up some...

Day 24: A Book You Wish More People Would have Read

Instinct

Like violent urban fantasy? Check out J.A. Garland’s work.

I’ll try to leave fellow WOTI people alone for the next few days… I need more variety in here.

Daily Book Challenge: Day 23

Day 23 – A book you wanted to read for a long time but still haven’t

BNW

I will get on it. Soon. It’s on my ereader… but I’m getting new loanable books next week…

And I’m back on schedule. Sorry I’ve been so unfaithful, long story short: One of the guys at work found a kitten the other day, and had an allergic reaction to it, so they kept it at my place until one of the other medics was able to foster. So, Dodger had a little friend for a bit. No excuses other than… kitty.

Daily Book Challenge: Day 22

Day 22 – Favorite book you own

TDL

This is not my favorite book – but I have a copy on my phone, my kobo, and I have it in print.

I’ve been betaing R.J.’s stuff for a while – and he’s won contests and appeared in anthologies way more than I have.

Even though all I did was look over the draft, tell him what I thought, he took or left it, and then pointed out the publisher to him, I feel very proud that this book got published.
