DAY 128 - Heroes of Storytelling

Welcome my wonderful readers!

Sometimes I'm asked, in interviews and such, who my influences are. My heroes of storytelling. I hesitate somewhat when answering, because two of the three ended up becoming fallen heroes, with the third likely to join them if I had been able to make contact.

Yep, Anne Rice and Ken Follett both politely turned me down when I had reached out to them with my own literary work, (meaning they wouldn't even read it, let alone offer a blurb) and the chances that Stephen King would have declined as well is probably pretty high. I realize that they must be bombarded with such requests, but you'd think they'd show some compassion and exception to a supporter who is fighting to keep his sight. To at least just take a look at the work.

Nope. Just another affirmation that most heroes are not the great people we perceive them to be. But hey, that doesn't mean my respect for their actual talent has diminished. The experience just taught me not to hold those I admire up too high. So yeah, Anne may have broke my heart, but she's still one of the best when it comes to description. As for Ken, always the master plotter. And then there's Stephen, whose characters are like no other.

As far as structure and the ability to tell a grand story in less than a hundred pages, well, you don't have to look that far, do you? :)

See you tomorrow:)
