Humbled by the the recognition from De La Salle University for excellence in the practice of Public History. More so because in a senior moment I forgot about the awards night last Saturday.
The superlative write up in the brochure and citation notwithstanding, I am not completely excellent and strive to improve everyday.

In another life, another time, I taught an Honors class in St. Scholastica’s College in Manila. This front page feature from 1938 reminded me of the hallways like a European Benedictine cloister. A lot of this has been preserved as the cultural heritage of Manila. The uniforms I remember from my cousins and aunts from Pampanga who studied in these halls and know them well.

Sharing a photo from the Instituto Cervantes de Manila album for 2025 Dia del Libro. It was a hot day cooled by the wind that blew things away from the table where I signed for over two hours. I cannot say thank you enough for all the readers who keep me researching, writing, and producing books. Pardon the sloppy camera work, I only slept 3 hours between a H-hour Easter Vigil at Ss Peter and Paul church in Poblacion Makati and Salubong in Malabon at 5am this morning.
The image of the Risen Christ meets his sorrowful mother, then a dive descends and pulls away her mourning veil to music, applause, and firecrackers. It is rousing to feel such devotion. Happy Easter!

Throwback Tuesday.
Mario Vargas Llosa (1936-2025). Nobel Laureate for Literature visited Manila in 2016. I was able to chat with him over a dinner where all eyes were on Isabel Preysler.
