I was reading the December No B.S. Newsletter, and in the opening article, our very own Darin Spindler talks about creating a Big Hairy Audacious Goal and why it is important for you to have one (or more) for both your business and personal life.
If you haven’t heard of BHAG before, it’s a clear and compelling target for an organization (or person) to strive for, and a term that was popularized in the book, Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies by Jim Collins and Jerry Porras.
If you haven’t read this, I highly recommend adding it to your to-read list.
Having a BHAG, means you have a plan and are thinking forward instead of backward...do you have one for yourself?
Do you plan your day, week, or month?
Do you plan at all?
Personally, I schedule my months ahead of time for both business and personal goals.
Then I break them down week by week with action items that I need to complete in my daily planner.
After that, I take those steps and add them into my calendar that I can access on both my laptop and phone, which can then set reminders for me so I don’t miss anything.
This allows me to know what I need to focus on each day of the week and be as productive as possible so I can stay on track during incredibly hectic times (like this week and my huge move!)
When I’m not moving, I also like to write down my goals on post-it notes and put them on my bathroom mirror so I have to look at them every morning when I’m beginning my day. I got this idea from David Goggins, who wrote the book, Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds.
