Creating Space

Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom.” —Viktor Frankl*

If you wrote this quote as a formula, it might look like this: S( )R.

I didn’t grow up with any understanding or even awareness of this space. I grew up with the R starting before the S was even done. Something happened, someone did or said something, and I’d come out swinging or fearing or worrying or apologizing.

Ian Enhancing spiritually, decreasing desire. Learning how to breathe, be thankful and accept ourselves. Understanding how to change the things we need to, and accept the things we cant.

All proven ways in increasing the S( <------> )R

Rachell Kitchen Love this! It's a wonderful reminder for us to pause. In that space, we can choose what values we want to honor and respond accordingly - in a way that serves us.

Lorri Britt You, me and many others had little space or no space.

Thankfully, we are capable of growing and evolving if we are willing to look within. We are blessed with many great teachers out in the world bringing more awareness to behaviors and reactions/ fear and shame and offering tools to develop the space/moment to breath and evaluate before we respond

I was pretty blessed to have a father that taught me that ( the space) while he raised me. He was firm, fair and always made me be accountable for my behavior and reactions. I didn't love the lessons in the moment, however, I very much appreciate the gifts he gave and taught me.

I love that you made it into a formula, not going to lie, I am going to use it :)

Educating, learning, leading by example and leaning in.

Douglass Morrison I think Man's Search for meaning is one of the most powerful and potentially influential books I have read. This quote is one of many about the importance of personal responsibility and individual freedom to make choices about our attitudes, our actions, and our lives.
