Christ was not a Christian. He was a mystic. He taught the principles necessary to become more virtuous and God-like, not simply to accept and obey Him through ritual and ceremony.

It is ironic that the most significant lessons taught by Christ are largely ignored by so many Christians — the fundamentalists in particular. No doubt, this is because "The Sermon on the Mount" and its introductory Beatitudes are not a system of theology or worship, but rather a metaphysical guide for the unfolding of consciousness.
