My least favorite word was Fag. So you can imagine I received a bit of concern about the title of the book.  It invoked whispers. However, I knew it was the right word and the right title.  Back in my political heyday as a sociologist, one of the social movements was to take back words by empowering the community to own the most damaging of hate words.  Once the community owns the word, then there’s very little the words can do to inspire fear or condemnation.
