DAY 79 - Face-To-Face With A Beast

Welcome my wonderful readers!

Well, I've got two more weeks until I leave the English Academy I'm currently teaching at to return to full time writing. One of the things I won't miss is the beast of a dog that I pass each day that the owner has stationed just a couple of yards from my classroom! The other dogs on the estate are friendly, and some even run up and greet me, but this particular dog I'm speaking of is a monster. Every day without fail he spins on the end of his chain like a Tasmanian devil, just wishin' he could sink those fangs of his into me!

Well, yesterday I had no choice but to be face-to-face with him...!

Right now I'm privately tutoring two different students. As the second hour wrapped my pupil and I were gathering our things to leave when we noticed the beast right outside the classroom door. He had somehow got off his chain! None of the groundskeepers were around, so we were kinda stuck.

I decided to take a chance and head to the bathroom. You see, the classroom is in the garage, and if you go further in there's the bathroom. So I armed myself with an uncapped ballpoint pen and headed for it, making sure not to make eye contact as I tested the waters.

Cujo just stood there, unsure of what to do.

When I left the bathroom and returned to the class I let my student know that I thought it would be ok for us to leave, as long as we acted 'natural', didn't make any sudden movements, and didn't make eye contact. Still had the pen in my hand, hoping that the ol' Ninja training wouldn't let me down if I needed to conjure it back up.

Leaving the garage, the beast was now in front of us, and as we stood still he smelt me. Recall any number of horror movies where a monster beast has someone at bay and you'll understand how we felt! (This dog had bitten one of my other students a couple of months back, so we knew there was danger)

Slowly, I led us away. Once clear, I headed upstairs to let the owner know that his beast was loose.

Close call!

See you tomorrow:)
