Under Pressure

What is beauty?

Some would argue beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Or is it beer holder?  Either way, beauty is opinion not fact. It's an idea made up in the minds of people who feel the need to categorize the world, to whatever end or agenda, based on irrelevant concepts like appearance. It is not a tangible thing. Not a good or service to be procured. It's an idea.

In reality, there is no guideline, no spreadsheet, no exact science to prove, or disprove, the appropriateness of ones beauty over another. Why, without any substantial evidence, do we base our 'socially acceptable' beauty standards on the opinions of some over others? Pressure.

Pressure to be thin, to be blonde, to be busty, to be tan, to be 'perfect'. Pressure to see this 'perfection' in others and choose it over all else. Without this pressure where would we be? Free, in whatever sense we choose, to form an opinion based on our personal preference. Free from stigma and social bias. Free to truly be what we are. Animals. Simple, instinct driven, opinion-blind, animals.

Lions don't shun one another because their ears are big, or their thighs touch (you know what I mean), they don't feel shame for who they are. They're fucking lions. They live, they eat, they procreate, they're regal fucking lions. They're animals.

It's time we accept that, in the simplest terms, we are animals. We live, we eat, we procreate. We are idiots. We are silly humans with silly preconceptions about life and what we are in the scheme of things and pretend like it all actually matters in the end. Like our standards are the end all be all for humanity. Fuck that. I'd rather be regal.

Screw shame. Screw opinion. The only opinion that matters is your own. The only beauty that matters is that which shines from within. Pride, acceptance, uncomplicated knowledge that you will be you until the bitter end shines and shimmers like a beacon of beauty in a mucky world of pressure and opinion. Shine on. You're one regal mother fucker. Roar!
