After the Pause

And now, the exhale. Then quiet: only birdsong and the wind in the leaves.

message 3: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I am so sorry.

I had send him an email after finishing "Lunatic Heroes" to tell him how much his stories resonnated with me and his replies were so warm and caring.

message 4: by Susie (new)

Susie It's hard to click on "like", as it's always painful for those left behind, but there is always peace in knowing that someone isn't suffering any longer. Time to breathe, time to reflect, and time to remember.

message 5: by Judith (new)

Judith Giant Hug to you and Amanda. Lost a good friend yesterday afternoon to a massive onslaught of cancer. It's a sad/happy happy/sad feeling. They have been released.

message 6: by Antonella (new)

message 7: by Krista (new)

Krista A beautifully phrased goodbye. My deepest sympathies to both you and Amanda, and to the families of Anthony--whether by blood or heart. Keep breathing.

message 8: by Han (new)

Han Adcock I know what this feels like. My great-nan passed away from leukaemia this year a couple of days before Mr. Pratchett passed on. I like to imagine they are travelling on together as a trio.

message 9: by Christine (new)

Christine Dearest Neil and Amanda,

Much sympathy for your loss. Here is a prayer that has helped me in many losses. I hope it helps you.

IRISH FUNERAL PRAYER

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.

The old life that we lived so fondly together
is untouched, unchanged.

Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that
we enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because
I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near, just around the corner.

All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting,
when we meet again.
