We're nothing, and nothing will help us

Here's today's progress on my subtropical (art)deco mystery about a young medium in a historic spiritualist community teaming up with a shell-shocked haberdasher who's receiving love notes from hell ... as inspired by a real place and a real set of bizarre (otherworldly?) incidents:

Project: Brimstone
Deadline: March 1, 2016
New words written: 4725 (cumulative)
Present total word count: 50,936

Things Accomplished in Fiction: Came home to find a fire. Somebody else's. Probably, somebody is dead. Got a weird gift from a cop; went ahead and kept it. Tried to catch a movie, but it didn't work out.

Things Accomplished in Real Life: Neighborhood jaunts with the dog; visits to post office; trip to bank; lunch with husband; more laundry; some housework; some easy emails; some difficult emails; a trip to the vet's office for a little old lady cat checkup; grooming appointment for Greyson; a chat with a large publisher's legal department; helped fine-tune some flap copy and so forth.

Personal Other: I've been a bit under the weather with a stomach bug for the last few days. I blame this (in part) for the low multi-day word count, but I seem to be on the mend today - and there's still plenty of writing time left in the day. I just wanted to make sure I put this up before a friend comes later, to join me for supper.

Cat Other: The little old lady cat checkup went...not as well as we'd hoped, but not as bad as it could have gone. She's pushing 18 years old, and she's full of vim and vigor (as they say) but she's also full of kidneys that are not doing so hot, and all her important blood readings are beginning to go askew. We start her on weekly fluids in a few days. We hope to keep her happy and comfortable for some time to come, if possible. We also hope to keep her from wailing incessantly in the middle of the night (despite her meds), and the fluids may take the edge off that. (Quinn has finally given up on her job as comforting kitten. I can hardly blame her.)

Anyway, if the ladies ever form a feline band, this can be their album cover shot.

Dog Other: Have some more majestic snow floofs. Even though it's about 45 degrees and clear right now.

Number of fiction words so far this year: 41,562
