There is some great discussion going on of this book in the Sword and Laser Group, highly recommended if you want to delve deeper into discussion of consciousness, humanity, and a post-sex society, all of which are included in this book.

Oh, how I wish I had chosen a better time to read this. I jumped into this book on a vacation when I was only able to read in fits and starts, and that is not how this book should be read. You really shouldn't start this book unless you can devote large chunks of time to it. There's some pretty deep stuff that goes on here. This was an ok book by Peter Watts. It had space exploration, first contact, vampires, multiple personality disordered people, people that were more machine than person, etc. I was able to read it, but did not find it as enjoyable as Starfish, which is still my favorite of his novels so far. Though I think this could make an excellent movie in the right hands.
