Goodreads asked Julia Brannan:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Julia Brannan This is a hard one. I don't really have any mysteries in MY life, but having traced my family history, there are a few mysteries in there that could form the plot for more than one book. In fact the Jacobite Chronicles arose from a family mystery, in that one Gordon branch of my family appear to have emigrated to Ireland, and then later came back to Scotland, in the 1830s. My ancestors were staunch Scottish nationalists and against the union with England, so I started reading up on why they might have moved to Ireland in the first place - which led me straight to the Jacobite rebellions, and my obsession with the period. Which led to the books!
