A Goodreads user asked Melanie Dickerson:

This is Anna, the one who asked about tips for writing a pirate adventure romance novel. I was wondering if you ever had a plan for a book, then finished and realized that you didn't have enough of indication of something in the plot. I wrote one with two characters like Belle and the Beast but it felt like their relationship was confusing, then they were suddenly in love. Do you have proposals for when this happens?

Melanie Dickerson Anna, I do sometimes have to rewrite parts of my books if they don't work. And when something turns out to be confusing . . . well, that's what editing is for! It's good to have an editor or an experienced reader look at it and help you figure out how to fix it, if you don't think you know how to fix it yourself.
I wish you the best with all your stories!
