Goodreads asked Jamie Stewart:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Jamie Stewart The idea for Mr. Jones was a lightbulb moment. One second my mind was blank and the next I had the novel's two main characters in my head, Mr Jones and Eli Donoghue. At the time I had been thinking about the author's motto of writing about what you know. I grew up in Northern Ireland and discovered that a lot of the fiction that is set there concerned a period in its history commonly known as 'The Troubles' that I had limited experience of. I felt like there was an opportunity to present a side of Northern Ireland that was different and important. With that in mind I thought about my own childhood, the things I enjoyed such as reading, writing and music. The story naturally developed around these ideas. I should mention that Mr. Jones is a work of fiction and merely inspired by my upbringing.
