The answer is '18-something-something'! It's more of a fantasyland setting than a real historical one, so I grabbed stuff from all over - early rail travel is 1840s, but the townscape Tobias experiences near the end is straight out of Austen. I think I was reading Persuasion when I wrote it, and that was published in 1817! And Silver's expensive coat and Mrs Silver's pearl-handled pistol both feel Regency to me, which is even earlier. The 'four hundred years ago' setting of Tobias's past is equally vaguely mediaeval-to-Tudorish without getting worried about precise historical details. Time is something pretty fluid for Tobias anyway.

Hi Emily! I loved your book and I found it very interesting and refreshing to see a gay romance in this fantasy set in the past. I was wondering if you are thinking about writing another story with folklore aspects, possibly about fairies? Also were there any books that you have read that have inspired you to write about folklore and nature?
