Now that Legends of the First Empire series is over, what's next for you?
Michael J. Sullivan
So for the past few years, I've been working on a series that is currently titled "The Rise and the Fall." It's a trilogy that is standalone from Legends and Riyria, but it does take place in the same world as those two series. From a timeline perspective, it starts 800 years after the end of Legends and it ends 1,000 years before the start of Legends of the First Empire. The books are already posted here on Goodreads, and I use my "review" space to update people on the progress of each. The first two are written, and I'm currently doing research for the third. Here is the status of each.
* Nolyn - alpha reading is almost done, and the number of changes are minor - I hope to have this book enter beta reading by June.
* Farilane - I completed in February. I think it's one of the best books I've written. Alpha reading for it will start by the end of this month.
* Esrahaddon - No writing on this book yet, but I am in the process of re-reading EVERY book I wrote in both Riyria and Legends because there will be a number of Easter eggs between it and Riyria (which I wrote from 2004 - 2006) and I want to make sure I don't miss anything.
Release schedules are a bit tentative at present (but if I finish Esrahaddon before the fall - which is very doable) then Nolyn will be released in the summer of 2021. The plan is to release one book a year at each of those time intervals.
Thanks for asking!

Hi Michael,
I am a huge fan of your work and I very much appreciate how active you are in your interactions with fans.
As for my question, when Vilar is getting ready to kill Jenny he looks for a knife and eventually decides he will have to stangle or beat her to death because he doesn't have a knife and cannot find one. He finds a key to the cell, and at that point he has a knife. Did I miss where he found it?

Hi Michael! I've read your story of your publishing journey before, and I've been debating going through a similar process of Self-Publishing (getting a good "press package" together, hitting the blog circuit), but I know my book is in need of a good edit (aside from the edits/rewrites I've done): How did you go about the edit process initially?
