I'm a distance runner (of sorts!). A few years back when we moved into our current home, I went out on a run across some hills I knew (or thought I knew) well.
I was about five miles into the run, thinking about heading home, when I realised I'd gone off track. I'd ended up in a forest. It took me several miles and what felt like an eternity to find my way out. And all the time I was thinking "how many horror movies have I watched that start this way..."
It was truly frightening, but the feeling of relief when I managed to get back to civilisation again (okay... it was only a kilometre or so away) was unforgettable and immense.
