Sofia asked Laurie Halse Anderson:

Hi Laurie! I am a huge fan and am especially excited for Ashes (I've been waiting since 2012)!!! I have a question on the series. Is there any historical background to characters such as Curzon and Isabel? I know it is historical fiction (due to the Revolutionary War) but are there any stories about children during this war like the characters? Also, who do you relate to the most in the book? Thanks!!

Laurie Halse Anderson We have bits and pieces of information about the lives of children and teens during the Revolution. I pulled from all of them when I was developing my characters. Children who were enslaved worked every bit as much as adults did. They also try to free themselves, and made choices about which army to support in the war.

I'll be posting an updated and lengthy bibliography for the trilogy to my website soon.

My hero is Isabel because she is so brave.

Thank you for waiting so patiently for ASHES!
